General Description:

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of special and standard motor equipment and has responsibility for minor maintenance of the equipment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Adequately drive and operate small and large trucks plus at least (1) of the following: loader, packer, link belt, roller, plow, backhoe, sweeper, Vactor, root cutter, compressor, or Drott.
• Variety of manual labor tasks.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Operates a snowplow and related snow removal equipment
• Operates medium and heavy trucks to transport workmen and transportation of stone, gravel, asphalt, and other supplies related to public works activities
• Operates motor equipment for maintenance tasks on highways and other public works components
• Operates motorized lawn mowing equipment
• Performs manual labor tasks such as cleaning, loading and unloading trucks, raking, shoveling, asphalt or topsoil, repairing and cleaning sewer lines, snow shoveling, leaf pickup, tree trimming, storm sewer and drainage work and paving related activities
• Operates power tools such as chain saw, bush clippers, leaf loaders, jack hammers
• Assumes responsibility for the supplies and equipment
• Checks equipment and performs minor maintenance work such as adding oil and other fluids
• Secures the equipment for overnight or weekend storage
• May assist mechanics with repairs to assigned equipment
• May supervise a crew of laborers on an occasional basis
• Other minimum qualifications per the New York State Civil Service requirements.

Minimum Qualifications :

Possession of a valid NYS Class

• B• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or higher at the time of appointment withtwo (2) years of paid full time or its part time equivalent experience in the operation of automotive equipment, some of which shall have been in the operation of medium and large trucks or heavy motor equipment.

Candidates are required to pass a DOT drug/alcohol test and physical examination prior to appointment.

Hours :

7:00am - 3:30pm (with 30-minute unpaid lunch)

Pay:

$27.27 per hour
