The Heavy Equipment Operator/Foreman position is responsible for overseeing daily field operations while operating heavy construction equipment on active job sites. This position combines equipment operation with crew supervision, coordination of daily tasks, and maintaining safe and efficient project operations. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, extensive equipment experience, and the ability to keep projects moving productively and safely. Key Responsibilities Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, skid steers, rollers, and dump trucks. Supervise and coordinate daily activities of construction crews and equipment operators. Assign tasks and ensure work is completed according to project schedules and specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and site plans. Monitor job site safety and enforce OSHA and company safety policies. Coordinate equipment usage, material deliveries, and workflow on job sites. Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs. Communicate with project managers, foremen, subcontractors, and field personnel regarding project progress and site conditions. Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout all phases of work. Train and mentor crew members on proper equipment operation and safe work practices. Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking, and equipment logs. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of heavy equipment operating experience. Previous crew leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Strong understanding of excavation, grading, utility, site development, or road construction operations. Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred. Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and construction site procedures. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Certifications Preferred OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification Commercial Driver's License (CDL) NCCCO or equipment operation certifications Work Environment This position works primarily on active construction sites with exposure to heavy equipment, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
