The utilities infrastructure market is significant, with funding coming from Municipalities, Cooperatives, Fortune 500 Utility providers, and private equity-backed projects, all of which are addressing the substantial need for infrastructure growth and replacement. Job Summary The Hydro Vac Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating hydrovac equipment to perform non-destructive excavation in support of underground utility construction and maintenance projects, including exposing utilities, potholing, trenching, and debris removal using high-pressure water and vacuum systems while ensuring the protection of existing infrastructure; the operator also conducts routine equipment inspections, performs basic maintenance, completes required documentation such as DVIRs and job logs, maintains a clean and organized work environment, and demonstrates strong communication, situational awareness, and the ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions and dynamic job site environments.
Responsibilities:
Operate Hydro/Jet vac equipment safely and efficiently. Perform pre-operation checks on the Hydrovac equipment. Maintain Hydrovac equipment to ensure it is in good working order. Complete paperwork associated with Hydrovac operations. Travel to and from job sites. Load and unload Hydrovac hoses. Maintain safe working habits and conditions at all times. Follow safety protocols and procedures. Communicate with other crew members to ensure timely job completion. Maintain a clean work area. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Hydrovac or Jet Vac Operator. Class CDL B with tanker endorsements with no restrictions High school diploma or equivalent. Positive attitude and openness to new methods. Experience in the telecommunications or underground utilities industry is a plus. Working knowledge of basic hand tools and mechanical equipment. Ability to travel as needed for job requirements. Valid driver's license and insurable. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Work Environment:
Must perform strenuous and physically demanding tasks for long hours, outdoors, and in varying weather conditions. Must be able to lift and carry materials weighing 40 to 90 pounds. Must maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and equipment for safe coordination. Must operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery. Must stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl during work tasks. Must wear safety boots, safety glasses, hard hats, and applicable safety gear.
