Job Description

Position Summary The Heavy Equipment/Road Grader Operator is responsible for operating motor graders and other heavy equipment to construct, maintain, and repair county roads, rights‑of‑way, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. This position supports safe and efficient travel throughout the county and performs skilled work under the direction of the District Commissioner or designated supervisor. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operates a motor grader to shape, crown, blade, and maintain gravel and dirt roads. Operates additional heavy equipment such as: Front‑end loaders Backhoes Dump trucks Rollers/compactors Excavators Performs road maintenance tasks including: Ditching and drainage improvements Culvert installation and replacement Snow and ice removal Roadway patching and surface repair Inspects equipment daily; reports mechanical issues and performs basic maintenance (greasing, fluid checks, blade changes). Reads and interprets grade stakes, maps, and instructions for road projects. Maintains accurate logs of work performed, materials used, and equipment hours. Follows all county safety policies, OSHA standards, and traffic control procedures. Works cooperatively with crew members, landowners, utility companies, and county officials.
