Job Description
The Asphalt Roller Operator is responsible for operating steel drum and pneumatic rollers to compact asphalt surfaces on roadways, parking lots, and other paving projects. This position works closely with the paving crew to ensure proper compaction, smoothness, and quality of the finished asphalt product while maintaining safe and efficient job site operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate asphalt rollers to compact asphalt to specified density and smoothness requirements. Work closely with the paving foreman, screed operator, and other crew members during paving operations. Monitor mat conditions and adjust rolling patterns as needed to achieve proper compaction. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment. Conduct routine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of assigned equipment. Identify and report equipment malfunctions or repair needs. Follow grade, slope, and compaction specifications. Assist with traffic control, site cleanup, and other labor duties as required. Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company safety policies and procedures. Work extended hours, weekends, and overtime as needed during paving season. Qualifications Previous experience operating asphalt rollers or similar heavy equipment preferred. Knowledge of asphalt paving and compaction techniques preferred. Ability to read and understand construction plans and instructions. Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb frequently throughout the workday. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
