Job Description

The Excavation Operator is responsible for operating an excavator equipped with scoops, shovels, or buckets to excavate and load loose materials
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates the excavator and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment Move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate power machinery, such as power shovels, stripping shovels, scraper loaders, or backhoes Become familiar with digging plans, machine capabilities and limitations, and with efficient and safe digging procedures Observe hand signals, grade stakes, or other markings when operating machines so that work can be performed to specifications Operate machinery to perform activities such as backfilling excavations, vibrating or breaking rock or concrete Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company's safety culture Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED required At least 3 years' experience operating excavator and heavy equipment
SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways, roads, sewers, and bridges Excellent verbal and written communication skills Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments - results oriented Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary Ability and willingness to travel as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another Ability to operate job related tools Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help Bay Ltd. is an Equal Opportunity Employer
