Job Description

This requisition expires on June 13, 2026 but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date. Responsible for operation of heavy equipment and activities of crew when crew leader is gone.
Essential Functions:
Operates heavy complex motorized equipment over 26,000 pounds (front-end loader, track and rubber tire loaders, dump truck, backhoe, motor grader, track loaders, steel wheel compactors, track-hoe, Dozer, and scrapers) Responsible for finishing grade work on projects Performs the duties of the crew leader in his absence Performs less skilled tasks associated with equipment operation and operates smaller equipment as needed Inspects and checks equipment before and after use, performs minor maintenance activities and reports exceptional problems to supervisor Operates rotary laser and optical level for grade control Occasionally confers with customer regarding service problems and reports information obtained to supervisor Completes work order forms on a daily basis Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

Acceptable Equivalency:
High school diploma or GED equivalent Eight years verifiable experience in the operation of heavy equipment in the excavation industry, surveying, and blueprints, etc. OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Core Competencies:
Proficient in Cartegraph work order systems Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to understand site work grading plans
Preferences:
Experienced in storm-drain installation and repair Good physical health and the ability to work outdoors and be able to lift up to 50 lbs
Conditions of Employment:
Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass written and field test to demonstrate equipment skills and ability to comprehend plans and grade Must possess and maintain a valid Class "A" CDL driver's license OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six (6) months of employment Must pass a physical examination Must be able to work Monday

The essential functions of this position require the use of heavy equipment, light equipment, and small tools ; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) issued by City of Denton that may include gloves, hard hat, safety goggles/eye protection, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, and uniforms.
