As a Mini-Excavator/Backhoe Operator at Bernhard Directional Drilling LLC, you will play a vital role in our operations, primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mini-excavators for various tasks related to directional drilling projects. This includes trenching, digging, backfilling, material handling, and site-preparation activities. You will work closely with drilling crews, ensuring that excavation work is performed accurately, on schedule, and in strict adherence to all safety protocols and project specifications. Must be able to work out of town. Lodging and daily per diem is provided.Responsibilities and Duties:
Operate mini-excavators/backhoes safely and efficiently in various environments, including uneven terrain, confined spaces, and near overhead/underground utilities.- Perform trenching for installation, utility lines, and other underground infrastructure as required by project plans.
- Conduct precision digging for pits, foundations, and other excavations, ensuring proper depth, width, and slope.
- Execute backfilling and compaction activities to restore sites post-excavation.
- Handle and move materials such as pipe sections, spoil, aggregates, and equipment components using excavator attachments.
- Load and unload trucks and other vehicles with excavated material.
- Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of equipment, including checking fluid levels, controls, safety devices, and general mechanical condition.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions, damage, or maintenance needs promptly to supervisors.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations, including participating in daily safety briefings and wearing appropriate PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure proper care of all assigned equipment.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, ground personnel, and other team members regarding project progress, potential hazards, and operational requirements.
- Assist ground crews with manual labor tasks when equipment operation is not required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall project success.
Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating mini-excavators/backhoes in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Proven ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently, demonstrating precision and control.
- Strong understanding of excavation techniques, trenching safety, and shoring requirements.
- Knowledge of ground conditions, utility protection, and safe digging practices.
- Commitment to safety and a strong understanding of OSHA regulations and company safety protocols.
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks outdoors in various weather conditions, including standing, bending, lifting, and climbing.
Legal Eligibility:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.Drug Testing:
Applicants will be responsible for cost of drug test. Company will reimburse applicant, if they pass the drug test.Preferred Qualifications:
