This role interprets and responds to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel, integrates and improves design requirements from a parent company, and supports the full project lifecycle from specification development and procurement through execution and warranty. The engineer collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders, optimizes piping design packages for quality and cost, and helps maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality. Responsibilities
  • Develop piping system designs that comply with relevant codes, contract requirements, and project schedules for gas turbine power projects in the Americas.
  • Interpret, integrate, and improve design requirements received from the parent company and work closely with them on a weekly basis to establish timelines and obtain critical documents.
  • Respond to piping technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel with minimal supervision, providing clear, accurate, and timely guidance.
  • Review project contracts, schedules, and requirements in detail to determine piping scope, deliverables, and deadlines for each project.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings and develop and maintain a master document list for the piping group to ensure organized and traceable documentation.
  • Review isometric drawings and other piping-related mechanical drawings with minimal supervision to verify design intent and quality.
  • Review piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and equipment drawings against piping drawings to ensure consistency and proper integration.
  • Prepare piping component lists, including valve lists and specialty component lists, using P&IDs and reports generated from 3D models.
  • Extract and manage reports from piping 3D models, particularly using SP3D, to support material take-offs, bill of materials, and design documentation.
  • Establish corrective actions to reduce nonconformance and improve the quality of piping designs and deliverables.
  • Apply piping design philosophy and perform piping designs as needed, coordinating with stress analysis and design groups.
  • Utilize a general understanding of pipe stress analysis and pipe supports to interface effectively with specialized analysis teams and ensure appropriate design solutions.
  • Use general knowledge of materials and piping hardware, including bolts, nuts, and gaskets, to prepare technical specifications for piping, valves, and supports and support subsequent purchasing activities.
  • Interpret and apply ASME B31.1 and B31.3 Codes, ensuring that piping code requirements are correctly defined and incorporated into designs and vendor specifications.
  • Prepare inquiry and purchase specifications for piping fabrication, pipe supports, piping hardware, and special piping system elements such as flexible hoses, strainers, and orifice plates.
  • Develop processes and procedures that optimize the use of engineering resources while delivering high-quality piping design packages.
  • Propose and develop concepts to improve piping systems and reduce costs, striving for continuous improvement and design excellence.
  • Interface with EPC contractors, customers, the parent company, and affiliated companies in periodic meetings to ensure clear understanding and resolution of engineering matters.
  • Request, receive, and manage technical information required for projects from subcontractors, coordinating closely with the purchasing department and project leadership.
  • Follow up on and resolve pending technical items identified during project execution and after completion, up to the expiration of the warranty period.
  • Perform other technical project implementation duties as required, supporting the broader engineering and project teams as needed.
  • Assist the Application Engineering group in reviewing and evaluating customer specifications in coordination with the parent company.
  • Prepare technical piping specifications and support the procurement of piping materials, including piping, valves, flanges, and related components.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors to review and track project schedules, requirements, and deadlines, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to specifications.
  • Generate bills of materials and material take-offs (MTO) from design models and drawings to support purchasing and construction activities.
  • Participate in bid evaluations, vendor management, and coordination activities related to piping materials and services.
  • Protect confidential information by not communicating, disclosing, or using it for the benefit of third parties and maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times.
  • Perform multi-tasking and maintain effective multidisciplinary communication with mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, controls, and project management teams.
  • Take part in interview and assessment processes as needed, including technical discussions with internal stakeholders. Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (such as Mechanical Engineering).
  • Minimum of 5 years and maximum of 10 years of directly related technical experience in piping engineering, piping design, or pipe stress analysis.
  • Experience in piping design for power plants, gas turbines, steam turbines, or similar industrial facilities.
  • Ability to interpret and apply ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes and ensure code requirements are incorporated into designs and vendor specifications.
  • Hands-on experience preparing technical piping specifications and supporting the procurement of piping materials, including piping, valves, flanges, and related components.
  • Experience purchasing piping materials and coordinating with vendors to review and track project schedules, requirements, and deadlines.
  • Ability to review and interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, isometrics, and other piping-related mechanical drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Experience generating bills of materials, material take-offs (MTO), and component lists from P&IDs and 3D models.
