Job Title:
Pipefitter Job Description The Pipefitter performs installation and layout of copper piping systems for HVAC and air conditioning applications, with a strong focus on brazing, soldering, and precise blueprint interpretation. This role leads field activities on site, ensuring high-quality workmanship on main and branch lines, VRV and VRF systems, and all associated pipe connections to branch boxes and wall-mounted units. Responsibilities Brazing and soldering copper pipe to a high standard of quality and safety. Dry fitting copper pipe to prepare for final brazed and soldered connections. Reading and interpreting blueprints to accurately lay out copper branch lines and main lines. Laying out and installing main lines and branch lines for HVAC and air conditioning systems. Installing and connecting piping for VRV and VRF systems, including branch boxes and wall-mounted units. Performing the full scope of pipefitting tasks, including threading, beveling, and general piping installation. Overseeing HVAC installation work related to piping and ensuring proper integration with HVAC systems. Coordinating daily work activities on site to meet project schedules and quality standards. Ensuring all work complies with applicable safety requirements and site regulations. Maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience in brazing and soldering copper pipe in a construction or mechanical setting. Proficiency in dry fitting copper pipe to ensure accurate alignment and fit prior to final connections. Ability to read and interpret blueprints for piping layouts, including main lines and branch lines. Hands-on experience installing piping for VRV and VRF systems and connecting to branch boxes and wall-mounted units. Strong pipefitting skills, including welding-related tasks, threading, beveling, and general piping installation. Practical experience with HVAC system installation and air conditioning piping. F60 certification. G60 certification. SST 10-hour and OSHA 30 certifications. Valid worker's wallet (proof of required safety and site credentials). Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience working on commercial HVAC or air conditioning projects. Familiarity with installation standards and best practices for VRV and VRF systems. Ability to coordinate with other trades on site to ensure smooth installation and system integration. Strong attention to detail to maintain high-quality piping workmanship and leak-free systems. Ability to follow safety procedures rigorously and promote a safe work culture on site. Why Work Here? Work Environment Work takes place on site at a commercial facility in Brooklyn, focusing on HVAC and piping installation within an active construction or renovation environment. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. The role involves working with copper piping, brazing and soldering equipment, threading and beveling tools, and other standard pipefitting and HVAC installation tools. You work in a construction setting that may include noise, dust, and varying temperatures, and you are expected to follow all site safety rules and wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Astoria, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $36.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
