Exercise considerable judgment to plan and perform a variety of difficult steamfitting work where general methods are available.Education and Experience:
A high school education or equivalent is required. Advanced knowledge of the steamfitting trade equivalent to complete accredited apprentice training is required. At least five years additional practical experience is required. Must provide own hand tools including pipe wrenches (up to 14'), allen, crescent, and open-end wrenches, assorted screwdrivers, files and chisels, hack saw, hammer, pump pliers, tube cutter and benzomatic torch, etc. A valid drivers license; the ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.Skills and Knowledge:

Plan, layout and install new and replacement steam and chilled water systems. Install boilers, thread or weld piping for heating, steam reduction stations, fire protection systems, etc. Maintain and repair existing systems. Inspect, install and repair a variety of pneumatic, electrical and combination valves (most electrical work done by others). Chemically treat water for all systems as instructed. Install steam and chilled water pipe insulation. Plan and perform preventive maintenance duties such as lubricating pumps. May be required to perform duties of HVAC Mechanic.About Syracuse University:
