This position requires mastery of sewer system maintenance equipment, strong technical diagnostic capability, the ability to safely operate excavation and sewer cleaning machinery, and the ability to respond effectively to emergency situations. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and requires strenuous physical labor and safe operation of complex equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate and maintain sewer maintenance equipment including Vactor/jet trucks, backhoes, sewer cameras, and sewer snakes. Operate sewer combination truck (jet/vactor) to perform sewer cleaning, blockage removal, flushing, and preventive maintenance on mainline and lateral sewer systems. Operate mainline sewer camera systems to conduct pipeline inspections and produce detailed condition reports. Operate handheld cameras and sewer snake equipment to diagnose and successfully resolve sewer problems. Clean, inspect, and maintain sanitary and storm sewer lines to ensure proper functioning and flow. Assist in the construction, repair, and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure including catch basins, manholes, and pipe structures. Operate excavation equipment (backhoe, mini‑excavator, skid steer) safely and productively for sewer access, repairs, and infrastructure replacement. Perform sewer pipe repairs, including making proper connections to multiple pipe materials (PVC, clay, cast iron, SDR, etc.) using correct methods to ensure durable, long‑lasting performance. Perform manual labor such as digging, lifting, bending, shoveling, and carrying materials as required. Respond to emergency sewer calls and maintenance incidents, including after‑hours and severe weather events. Ensure safe work practices are followed in confined spaces, traffic areas, excavations, and hazardous environments; report safety concerns to supervisors. Conduct preventive maintenance on all assigned vehicles, equipment, and sewer system tools. Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, inspections completed, and equipment serviced. Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the classification. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL A with Tanker Endorsement) with a clean driving record. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Regular and reliable attendance. Proficient operation of sewer combo truck (jet/vactor) for sewer cleaning and maintenance. Ability to operate mainline sewer camera systems and generate inspection reports. Ability to operate handheld sewer cameras and sewer snakes to diagnose and resolve sewer issues. Ability to safely and productively operate excavation equipment such as backhoes, mini‑excavators, and skid steers. Ability to correctly connect and repair various pipe materials using proper sewer construction and repair methods.
