Job Description

Position Overview We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and safety-conscious Pipelayer to join our underground utilities and excavation crew. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling, connecting, and laying underground pipes for sanitary sewers, water mains, storm drains, and grading utilities. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, a solid understanding of grade and lasers, and a proven track record of working safely and efficiently in trenches.
Key Responsibilities Pipe Installation:
Lay, align, and position various types of pipe—including PVC, ductile iron, HDPE, and concrete—for water, sewer, and storm systems.
Grade Control:
Read and interpret blue prints and grade stakes. Set up and utilize pipe lasers, transit levels, and grade rods to ensure precise slope and elevation.
Trench Preparation:
Grade and level trench bottoms using hand tools (shovels, tamping equipment) to create a stable foundation or bedding for the pipe.
Rigging & Signaling:
Safely rig pipe, fittings, and manholes for heavy equipment operators. Provide clear hand signals or radio communication to ensure safe handling and placement.
Jointing & Assembly:
Glue, weld, bolt, or cement pipe joints and fittings securely to ensure leak-free connections.
Safety & Compliance:
Strictly adhere to OSHA trench safety guidelines. Properly utilize shoring boxes, shielding, and sloping techniques to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications & Experience Experience:
Minimum of [2-3] years of experience specifically as an underground utility pipelayer.
Technical Skills:
Proven ability to set up and read pipe lasers and calculate grade differentials.
Blueprint Reading:
Ability to interpret civil construction plans and utility drawings.
Safety Certifications:
OSHA 10-Hour or competent person training for trenching/excavation is highly preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Stamina:
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work on your feet for long hours, and endure outdoor elements (heat, cold, mud, and rain).
Reliability:
Valid driver's license and dependable transportation to travel to various local jobsites. What We Offer Competitive hourly wages based on experience. Base& Fringe on Prevailing wage projects.
