Job Description
Journeyman Pipefitter - Longview, WA 300 Fibre Way Longview, WA 98632 The opportunity: Smurfit Westrock pulp and paper mill located in Longview, WA is actively seeking to fill a journey-level Pipefitter position. A successful candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude and be willing and eager to invest time and energy in training to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful. This position will Perform a variety of maintenance and repair activities on all sized of piped and valves in a large paper mill. Inspects worksite, plans activities, selects tools and replacement parts, cuts, welds, disassembles, and assembles parts. May interact with management, engineering and vendors regarding new machinery/equipment selection, specifications, and set-up. How you will impact
WestRock:
- Perform a variety of maintenance-related tasks in connection with the maintenance department.
- Repair and/or make improvements to equipment related to pulp and paper manufacturing processes.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, rigging, pipe threading machines, welding equipment, tube bending machines, and various power tools
- Read or sketch blueprints/drawings and perform own fit ups.
- Layout and mark weld points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
- Assembly of components with some fabrication of equipment as needed for the job.
- Position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
- Operate cutting equipment.
- Fabricate and assemble screwed piping and tubing, fit weld pipe or butt weld pipe and associated brackets using blueprints and specifications within tolerance.
- Selecting type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications, knowledge of system operation, and study of building plans / working drawings.
What you need to succeed:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3+ years\u2019 experience working in an industrial maintenance environment as a journey level Pipefitter, previous experience in a pulp and paper mill would be considered a plus.
- Formal apprenticeship or education preferred.
- Experience welding carbon and stainless steel.
- Self-motivated, results driven, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision or direction.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, read and interpret technical documents, and operate moderately complex software and web-based programs.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; customer-focused and a flexible, positive attitude.
- Have the appropriate body coordination with or without reasonable accommodation to do the following for extended periods of time: climb ladders, bending, twisting, kneeling, and crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting in varying temperatures (hot/cold) Must agree to complete sub-journeyman training program through training and testing provided by the company to reach Journeyman level status.
- Starting wage of $41.
