Gas Utility Pipeline TrainerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Gas Utility Pipeline Trainer to design, deliver, and maintain comprehensive training programs for pipeline operations and construction personnel. The roles primary objective is to ensure field and office staff are competent, compliant, and safe in gas operations by developing curriculum, delivering classroom and hands-on instruction, and validating operator qualifications in accordance with industry regulations and company standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, update, and maintain training curricula and materials for pipeline construction, operation, maintenance, and safety, including classroom presentations, hands-on field exercises, and e-learning modules.
Deliver effective training courses to crews, supervisors, and new hires covering gas operations, pipeline construction practices, emergency response, and regulatory compliance.
Conduct on-the-job training, practical assessments, and operator qualification (OQ) testing; document results and provide remediation plans where necessary.
Assess trainee competency through written exams, practical demonstrations, and performance observations; maintain accurate training records and training logs.
Coordinate with operations, safety, engineering, and HR teams to align training with operational procedures, regulatory changes, and safety best practices.
Monitor industry standards, OSHA regulations, and pipeline safety guidance to ensure all training content remains current and compliant.
Support incident investigations by providing training history, identifying training-related root causes, and recommending corrective training actions.
Assist with scheduling and logistics for training sessions, managing training facilities, and maintaining equipment and materials used for practical exercises.
Mentor and coach field personnel to reinforce safe work practices, effective construction techniques, and continuous improvement in job performance.
QualificationsMinimum 3 years (with Bachelors) or 5 years (with a Associates) of hands-on experience in gas operations, pipeline construction, or related utility field roles.
Proven experience as a trainer or instructor delivering technical and safety training to utility or construction personnel.
Strong knowledge of gas operations, pipeline construction practices, leak detection, and emergency response procedures.
Familiarity with Operator Qualification (OQ) processes and experience conducting competency evaluations and OQ assessments.
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant pipeline safety standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear training materials and deliver engaging presentations.
Ability to perform and demonstrate hands-on tasks in the field and to evaluate practical performance.
Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to field sites and multiple work locations as required.
Preferred:
certifications or coursework in gas operations training, adult learning, or instructional design.
Nice to have: experience as a Gas Operator, specific pipeline operations knowledge, familiarity with utilities industry practices (including National Grid), prior Operator Qualification and Gas Training experience.
