Job Description Lead on-site construction activities for historic restoration and interior fit-out projects across the DC / I‑495 corridor Oversee revitalisation of distressed and abandoned brick buildings, balancing preservation with modern construction methods Manage speciality trade contractors and artisans including masons, plasterers, preservation carpenters, and metal fabricators Execute work from historic documentation, archival drawings, surveys, and condition assessments Coordinate closely with architects, conservators, inspectors, and ownership teams Maintain safety, quality, and protection of historic fabric on occupied, phased, or sensitive sites Implement quality control processes including mock-ups, test panels, and preservation-specific inspections Plan and manage selective demolition, stabilisation, shoring, and temporary weather protection Maintain project schedules and budgets within complex regulatory and approval environments Support commercial interior and restaurant projects, often assisting on 2-3 jobs simultaneously MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. The Successful Applicant 7-10+ years' experience as a Construction Superintendent Minimum 3-5 years focused on historic preservation, restoration, or rehabilitation projects Strong background in exterior historic systems including: Masonry (brick, stone, terra cotta) Historic roofing and waterproofing systems Structural stabilisation and façade restoration Ornamental plaster, woodwork, architectural metals Window and door restoration Experience delivering commercial interiors, restaurants, or food & beverage projects Proven ability to manage specialty trades and preservation-focused subcontractors Experience working in urban historic environments such as Washington, DC preferred Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills Detail-oriented with a commitment to craftsmanship and quality What's on Offer Competitive annual salary ranging from $120,000 to $140,000 USD.
