POSITION SUMMARY

Performs plumbing duties, including general installation, maintenance, and repair of school plumbing systems throughout the district.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions Performs daily review and prioritizing of work orders, job assignments and routine inventory/supply actions. Performs plumbing duties, including installation, maintenance, and repair of school plumbing systems. Ensures the preparation of pipes and surfaces prior to execution of repairs. In addition to general plumbing repairs, installs and/or repairs domestic hot water heaters/boilers, kitchen dishwashing machines, lawn irrigation systems and swimming pool plumbing systems. Performs skilled journeyman plumbing tasks in accordance with practices of the trade. Performs all plumbing and related duties in a conscientious and safe manner. Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor(s). Marginal Functions Blows out sprinkler systems and changes sprinkler heads annually. May assist other maintenance employees with installation, maintenance, and repairs of other systems in district facilities, as time permits. May assist in snow removal on district parking lots.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands:

Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. Standing, walking, stooping, or crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, talking, hearing. Frequent attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, and ability to adjust eye to bring object into sharp focus, required. Moderate physical demand with regular lifting of light (1 to 25 lbs.) items by hand and lifting of average to heavy items (25lbs. to over 60 lbs.) by hand or with mechanical assistance.

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions:

Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with exposure to some adverse atmospheric conditions, some of which may be present to the extent of being disagreeable at times. Travel between buildings required.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Knowledge of plumbing installation and repair techniques and use of basic tools and equipment of the trade, requiring basic skills knowledge. Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.

Experience:

Requires a minimum of one year up to and including three years of experience as a journeyman plumber or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position: Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percentages. Perform reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level. Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position: Computer and related software, variety of electric powered and plumbing hand tools.
