Design and direct the construction and operation of water/drainage projects: water works, sewage, garbage/trash disposal, drainage systems, and insects and rodent control. Supervise the activities of the plumbing staff.Qualifications:
Education/Certification High school diploma or GED Master Plumber License Valid Texas driver's license Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques Knowledge of plumbing codes Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material Ability to perform mathematical calculations Ability to diagnose and resolve problems Ability to use hand and power toolsExperience:
Three years' experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; clear driving recordMajor Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair Read and interpret plumbing blueprints. Review and comply with plumbing codes and the characteristics of all types of pipe fittings and tubing. Apply mechanical reasoning to correctly diagnose all plumbing issues. Weld and solder connections on metal pipes. Analyze the sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs. Modify and install new lines, seals, and leaking joints. Replace defective pipe and fitting; repair plumbing fixtures; open clogged drains; repair broken and leaking pipes; and cut, thread, and bend pipes. Fit and seal valves, couplings and other fittings to pipe sections. Clean or direct other workers to clean boilers and auxiliary equipment. Inspect and repair boiler fittings such as safety valves, regulators, automatic control mechanisms, and water columns and auxiliary machines such as pumps, draft fans, stokers, and burners. Replace damaged boiler tubes and plates. Repair or replace high pressure piping boiler insulation with cement and paint surface of equipment. Perform water pressure test by pumping water into system to determine location of leaks. Remove and replace defective firebrick. Detect and remove rodent and offensive animals from buildings and grounds. Work irregular hours and respond to emergencies after hours. Safety Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
