Job Description

Gearhead Technician Summary:
The Gearhead Technician performs maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on gear drives, and related mechanical equipment used in water well drilling and pumping operations. This position assists with installation, disassembly, and field service of gear drives, and drive systems. The Gearhead Technician works closely with the Pump Manager and field crews to ensure equipment reliability, safe operation, and minimal downtime. Work is performed both in a shop environment and in the field and may involve physically demanding tasks and outdoor working conditions.
Responsibilities:
Perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on gear drives and related mechanical equipment. Assist with installation, removal, and servicing of line shaft turbine pumps, submersible pumps, and associated drive systems. Disassemble equipment to diagnose mechanical issues and replace worn or damaged components. Conduct routine inspections of gear drives and related equipment to ensure proper operation. Perform preventive maintenance. Assist field crews with pump installations, equipment setup, and operational support when needed. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed. Follow all company safety policies and procedures while working in shop and field environments. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and organized condition. Communicate equipment issues and repair needs to supervisors and managers. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, pumps, motors, and gear drives. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and mechanical repair equipment. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform equipment repairs. Ability to read and understand basic mechanical diagrams and equipment manuals. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field locations as needed. Preferably hold a Class A CDL.
