Job Description

Purpose:
Safely plan, coordinate, and execute the relocation, installation, or removal of machinery while leading the crew and protecting personnel, equipment, and facility. 1. Pre-Job Planning Review scope of work, site layout, and moving path
Verify:
Machine weight, dimensions, and center of gravity Pick points and manufacturer recommendations Identify required equipment: Forklifts, cranes, gantries, dollies, skates, jacks Evaluate route: Floor load capacity Doorways, ceiling height, tight clearances Ramps, inclines, and transitions Check for obstacles: Electrical, piping, overhead obstructions Confirm permits, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and disconnects are completed Assigning crew roles 2. Equipment & Tool Inspection Inspect before use: Machinery skates, dollies, rollers Hydraulic jacks, toe jacks, gantries Slings, chains, and rigging hardware
Verify:
Load ratings (WLL) No leaks, cracks, or excessive wear Ensure all tools required for disassembly/reassembly are on hand 3. Safety Leadership Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) / toolbox talk Ensure PPE compliance: Hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, high-vis Establish clear travel path and restricted zones Watch for: Pinch points and crush hazards Uneven surfaces and shifting loads Monitor environmental conditions (heat, lighting, ventilation) Enforce lockout/tagout before work begins Stop working immediately if unsafe conditions arise 4.
Machinery Preparation Confirm equipment is:
Powered down and disconnected Drained fluids if required Properly labeled for reconnection Secure or remove loose components Protect sensitive parts (controls, wiring, precision surfaces) Verify lifting points are approved and structurally sound 5. Moving & Rigging Execution Select proper method: Skates/rollers for horizontal moves Jacks/gantry/crane for lifting Lift slowly and evenly—always maintain load balance Use cribbing properly: Stable, level, and stacked correctly Keep hands and feet clear of pinch points Control movement: Use taglines, come along, or push/pull bars as needed Move in small, controlled increments Never exceeding equipment capacity Ensure clear communication during all movements 6. Crew Supervision Direct crew step-by-step through moves Ensure everyone understands the plan before starting Assign spotters in tight or blind areas Correct unsafe actions immediately Maintain steady workflow without rushing 7.
Communication Coordinate with:
Facility managers Electricians / maintenance teams Crane or forklift operators Clearly communicate: Movement sequence Hazards and changes Start/stop commands Use radios or agreed-upon hand signals when needed 8. Placement & Installation Position machinery accurately per layout Level and align equipment: Use shims or leveling devices as needed Anchor or secure machinery if required Assist with reassembly and positioning for reconnect Verify clearances and accessibility 9.
Documentation Complete:
JSA / safety forms Equipment inspection logs
Report:
Damages, near misses, or issues immediately Track labor, time, and equipment usage 10. Post-Job Responsibilities Ensure machinery is safely set and stable Remove all rigging and moving equipment Clean and clear work area Inspect equipment for damage Conduct job debrief: What went well Lessons learned Key Reminders Slow and controlled beats fast and risky Always watch pinch points Verify load weight and equipment capacity before every move Clear communication is critical in tight spaces When in doubt—stop and reassess
Pay:
$30.00 - $50.00 per hour
