We are currently looking for a Shipyard Competent Person to join our team in Norfolk, VA. Responsibilities Conduct regular inspections of work areas to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety regulations. Supervise rigging operations, ensuring proper techniques are used for lifting and securing heavy equipment or ship components. Provide guidance on mechanical tasks related to ship maintenance, repair, and assembly processes. Coordinate with various teams to facilitate safe work practices during complex operations such as welding, lifting, or material handling. Ensure compliance with safety standards by maintaining accurate documentation and reporting any unsafe conditions or incidents. Support crew training on safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and emergency protocols. Assist in planning and executing shipyard activities that require specialized knowledge in rigging and mechanical systems. Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement within the workforce. Experience Proven experience working in a shipyard or maritime environment with a focus on safety oversight. Strong mechanical knowledge related to ship systems, rigging techniques, and general maintenance procedures. Demonstrated ability to perform rigging tasks safely and efficiently. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse teams. Familiarity with safety regulations such as OSHA standards or equivalent maritime safety protocols. Comfortable working at heights, in small spaces, and in all weather conditions. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
