$25.00-$35.00 per hour, based on relevant experience, equipment-operating ability, licenses and certifications Position Overview ERC Environmental Inc is seeking an experienced Septic Installer and Equipment Operator to join our field team. This is a hands-on position primarily involving the installation, replacement and repair of residential septic systems throughout New Jersey. The ideal candidate has direct septic installation or underground utility experience, understands excavation and site work, and is comfortable operating excavators, skid steers and loaders. This is not solely an equipment-operating position. The employee will also perform manual labor, piping, grading, material handling, site preparation and jobsite cleanup as part of the installation crew. Occasional excavation and related site-work services may be required, but septic installation remains the primary focus of this role. Responsibilities Install, replace and repair residential septic systems. Set septic and pump tanks safely and accurately. Install distribution boxes, piping, pumps, risers and related system components. Construct and repair disposal fields and drainage areas. Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling and site preparation as needed to support septic installations. Read and follow engineering plans, site plans, elevations and installation specifications. Operate excavators, mini excavators, skid steers, loaders and compactors. Check grades, elevations, pipe pitch and component placement. Load, unload and transport tools, equipment and job materials. Perform hand digging, shoveling, raking and other physical installation work. Restore and clean residential properties after installation work is completed. Maintain company tools, vehicles and equipment in clean and safe operating condition. Follow company safety procedures and applicable local and state requirements. Communicate professionally with homeowners, inspectors, engineers and coworkers. Assist with excavation, drainage and related site-work projects when needed. Required Qualifications At least two years of septic installation, underground utility, excavation or closely related site-work experience. Working knowledge of septic tanks, piping, distribution boxes and disposal fields. Experience operating an excavator or mini excavator. Ability to read and follow engineering plans and site layouts. Valid driver's license. Reliable transportation to our Sparta, New Jersey location. Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions. Dependable attendance and ability to report to work on time. Ability to work safely both independently and as part of a crew. Preferred Qualifications Direct experience installing complete residential septic systems. Experience setting concrete or fiberglass septic tanks. Skid steer, loader or backhoe experience. CDL Class A or Class B. OSHA or other relevant safety training. Experience checking grades and elevations using a laser level. Experience working with inspectors, engineers or municipal officials. Relevant septic, construction or equipment certifications. Compensation and Benefits $25.00-$35.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Overtime opportunities. 401(k) plan.
