ENTRY-LEVEL SALARY

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent. At least two (2) years of experience in performing skilled and semi-skilled work in one or more specified craft areas such as carpentry, masonry, concrete, electrical, HVAC, and/or plumbing. Must possess or be able to obtain a Class D Tennessee Driver's License.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains, repairs and installs plumbing fixtures and equipment including water lines, water heaters and drain lines using appropriate tools, materials and techniques. Maintains, repairs and installs small heating and air conditioning units; diagnoses problems and makes necessary repairs and replacements; maintains, cleans and changes filters and performs other preventative maintenance regularly. Inspects and performs general maintenance and upkeep on City facilities, buildings and equipment which includes necessary repair and other general maintenance duties within the area of assignment; orders replacement parts to repair damaged equipment, fixtures, etc. Drives City vehicles to work sites.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
The following functions may be required depending upon the area of assignment: Performs all phases of construction and repair of small buildings, playground equipment, and other small structures from drawings and sketches; constructs and sets forms for pouring concrete; erects braces and scaffolding as needed; builds and/or repairs stairs, handrails, and other structures common to public areas using hand saws, power saws, hammers, framing squares, and other common carpentry tools. Mixes, pours and finishes concrete for the installation and/or repair of footers, pads, and other sub-structures for various small buildings, playground equipment, or other facilities on City property. Prepares and lays brick, block, tile and/or related materials as required for the construction and repair of various structures using hammers, chisels, trowels, levels and other common masonry tools. Uses brushes, rollers, etc. as needed to apply paint to various surfaces; prepares surfaces by sanding and scraping for optimum adhesion to surface and increased durability; climbs ladders and scaffolding as needed to gain access to surfaces to be painted; determines type of paint required for various surfaces and conditions. Measures floor dimensions and prepares, cuts, and installs various floor coverings such as tile, linoleum, carpet, etc. in City-owned facilities using appropriate tools, materials and techniques. Removes old roofing and replaces damaged plywood or other sub-roofing as needed; installs roll roofing (black felt), shingles and/or other roofing materials using various hand tools and equipment. Maintains, repairs and installs electrical equipment such as fixtures, conduit, switch gears, lighting fixtures, motors, meters and other related equipment; conducts preventive maintenance on motors and other equipment in order to ensure good working order. Performs related work as required.
