OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Working under minimal supervision, manufactures, restores, and renews metal parts and components when damaged or degraded.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Manufacture structural and sheet metal products in accordance to drawings, specifications and preliminary diagrams. Read and understand blueprints. Complete accurate, complicated drawing layouts for the fabrication of metal products. Construct templates and patterns as required. Set up and operate all metal forming, shaping, shearing, rolling and cutting equipment. This includes hand tools (powered) notches, punches and scroll equipment. Set up and safely operate spot-welding, arc welding and oxy/acetylene equipment. Manufactures, restores, renews metal parts, or components from damaged, or degraded parts as required. Work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions with regard to methods and material used to repair/fabricate metal parts and components. Verify dimensions of fabricated or restored work pieces to ensure conformance to specification. Work with various materials such as but not limited to carbon steel, alloy steel, spring steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and brass, round stock, barstock, tubing and sheet stock. Ability to design, fabricate, and use fixtures, hold-downs and jigs for parts fabrication. Material handling including storing, moving all sheet metal and stock material required in the performance of the job. Proper record keeping documenting all parts fabrication including Sheet metal Work Orders, VMIS work orders, or other designated methods. Use new technology related to the fabrication of metal parts as it becomes available. Perform preventive maintenance on sheet metal machinery as required. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others. Perform other duties related to the performance of one's job. Subject to be called for snow emergencies.

High School Diploma or equivalent Two years technical school or accredited applied trades training Have a minimum of five years of experience in metal fabrication Must satisfactorily complete written qualification tests specific to this job description Must satisfactorily complete required hands-on performance tests Normal time to demonstrate proficiency, 90 days Possess a valid driver's license or equivalent
