Job Title:
Sheet Metal Forming Fabricator Job Description The Sheet Metal Forming Fabricator supports aerospace manufacturing operations by forming, assembling, and finishing sheet metal components used in commercial, business, regional, and military aircraft. This role operates a variety of forming and fabrication equipment, follows detailed work instructions, and contributes as a productive and responsible member of a collaborative production team. The position is well suited for entry-level candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and the desire to learn and grow within the aerospace industry. Responsibilities Operate forming and fabrication equipment such as press brakes, punch presses, turrets, and other machinery to bend, punch, and shape sheet metal components according to specifications. Support the production team by assembling parts and subassemblies, ensuring components meet dimensional and quality requirements. Perform hand forming, deburring, sawing, and other finishing operations on metal products to remove sharp edges and prepare parts for subsequent processes. Set up machines and equipment for production runs, including loading materials, aligning parts, and performing basic adjustments under supervision. Follow written work instructions, blueprints, and standard operating procedures to produce high-quality aerospace parts. Inspect parts visually and with basic measuring tools to verify conformance to quality standards and report any nonconformances to the appropriate personnel. Handle sheet metal and other materials safely, using proper lifting techniques and equipment to move parts and products throughout the work area. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following 5S and lean manufacturing principles. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules, on-time delivery goals, and customer requirements. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance product quality. Adhere to all company policies and procedures related to quality, safety, and workplace conduct. Work a Monday-Friday shift and be available for overtime as required, including occasional weekends. Essential Skills High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Three to six months of related experience and/or training in manufacturing, machine operation, or a similar hands-on environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to operate or learn to operate press brakes, punch presses, turrets, and other sheet metal fabrication machinery. Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand and power tools. Ability to read and follow work instructions and production documentation; willingness to learn to interpret blueprints as needed. Understanding of or willingness to learn process flows, lead times, and lean principles in a manufacturing environment. Strong team orientation with reliable attendance and a commitment to supporting team goals. Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and ability to safely handle materials and equipment. Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and move heavier items with appropriate assistance. Ability to work a Monday-Friday daytime shift with flexibility to work overtime, including weekends, when required. Effective verbal communication skills to interact with supervisors and team members in a production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience with press brake operations, including mechanical and CNC equipment, is highly desirable. Experience with 4-foot and 8-foot, 80-ton press brakes (such as Amada) is a plus. Experience in punch press, turret press, or general machine operation in a sheet metal fabrication environment is an advantage. Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication processes, including deburring, line-up, and part inspection, is beneficial. Knowledge of punching processes and punch tooling is a plus. Experience with roll forming and brake forming of sheet metal components is desirable. Prior exposure to aerospace manufacturing or other precision manufacturing environments is a plus. Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement practices is beneficial. Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings is a plus, with willingness to develop these skills further. Demonstrated attitude and aptitude to learn new processes, equipment, and technologies in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Work Environment The role is based in a clean, organized manufacturing shop that specializes in steel and sheet metal fabrication for aerospace components. The environment involves working around heavy materials and industrial machinery, and it can be loud at times due to equipment operation. Employees regularly stand, walk, and move throughout the production floor, using their hands to handle parts, tools, and controls, and occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching as required by the tasks. The position requires regular lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, and occasional handling of heavier loads with appropriate techniques and assistance. The initial training period typically starts on a first shift starting at 7:00 a.m., with a regular day shift schedule of 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A swing shift option runs from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and includes a shift differential. Employees are expected to wear appropriate attire suitable for a manufacturing environment, including any required personal protective equipment, and to follow all safety guidelines and procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
