- $35/hr Job Description This role focuses on performing maintenance and repair on mechanical systems aboard large marine vessels, including Navy, Coast Guard, commercial ships, and barges.
You will work as an outside machinist and mechanic in a shipyard environment, applying your marine mechanical expertise to service shipboard mechanical and hydraulic systems, valves, pumps, and related equipment. Responsibilities Perform maintenance and repair on shipboard mechanical systems, including hydraulic systems, valves, and pumps. Work as an outside machinist and mechanic on large vessels such as Navy ships, Coast Guard ships, commercial ships, and barges. Install, align, and service marine mechanical components and systems according to blueprints and technical specifications. Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and shipyard documentation to complete mechanical and sheet metal tasks accurately. Perform marine mechanical and sheet metal work in various shipyard locations, including onboard vessels, in the shop, and outdoors. Use appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques to safely complete repairs and installations on marine systems. Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Collaborate with other trades and team members to complete ship repair and maintenance projects efficiently. Ensure work meets quality standards and shipyard requirements for marine and mechanical systems. Essential Skills At least 4 years of combined experience in Navy and/or shipyard environments working on marine mechanical systems. Hands-on experience as a marine mechanic or outside machinist on large vessels. Proficiency in working with valves, pumps, and hydraulic systems on ships. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings related to shipboard systems and sheet metal work. Experience performing maintenance on large vessels such as Navy ships, Coast Guard ships, commercial ships, and barges. DBIDS eligibility to access shipyard and vessel work areas. Strong understanding of shipyard safety practices and procedures. Capability to work in a physically demanding marine and shipyard environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background as a Machinist Mate or in other mechanical Navy trades is highly relevant. Experience in marine installation work, including fitting and aligning mechanical systems. Sheet metal mechanic experience in a shipyard or marine setting. Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-trade team in a ship repair environment. Adaptability to work on different vessel types and in varying shipyard locations. Why Work Here? Work conditions may include varying weather, confined spaces, and heights, typical of shipyard and onboard vessel operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00
