Job Description

Position Summary The Solar Field Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of residential and/or commercial solar energy systems. This role works in the field to ensure systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and local regulations. Key Responsibilities Install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including panels, inverters, racking, and electrical components Perform system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting Conduct routine maintenance and service on existing solar systems Diagnose and repair system issues, including electrical and mechanical faults Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and installation plans Ensure all work complies with local codes, safety standards, and company guidelines Complete required documentation, reports, and job notes accurately Communicate effectively with project managers, electricians, and customers as needed Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in good condition Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required 1-3+ years of experience in solar installation, electrical work, roofing, or construction preferred Basic knowledge of electrical systems and solar PV systems Ability to read technical drawings and schematics NABCEP certification (or willingness to obtain) is a plus Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Skills & Competencies Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good communication and customer service skills Detail-oriented with a focus on quality workmanship Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor environments Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs regularly Comfortable working on rooftops and ladders Ability to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, sun exposure) Standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods Work Environment Primarily field-based with travel to job sites May require overtime or weekend work depending on project needs Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly pay (based on experience) Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holidays Opportunities for advancement and training
