Job Description
About Coastal Energy Coastal Energy is a Florida-based, Tesla-certified solar, roofing, and electrical contractor serving Central, Southwest, and Southeast Florida. We specialize in solar panels, Tesla Powerwall battery storage, Tesla Solar Roof, and electrical upgrades. We're a growing team on a mission to become Florida's leading provider of solar roofing, solar power, and battery backup solutions — and we're looking for a seasoned technician to back that up with world-class service. Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Solar Service Technician to join our dynamic team. This is a diagnostic and service position for someone who has been there, done that on installs — and is now the person others call when something isn't right. As our Solar Service Technician , you'll own the service/maintenance side of our residential and commercial solar and battery portfolio. You'll troubleshoot underperforming systems, resolve warranty issues, diagnose electrical faults, and represent Coastal Energy when customers need answers and solutions — not excuses. If you have 5+ years in solar electric and batteries, take pride in clean problem-solving, and know your way around a Tesla Powerwall, an inverter combiner box, and a multimeter equally well — this role was built for you.
What You'll Do Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve issues with residential and commercial solar PV systems, Tesla Powerwall systems, battery storage, inverters, and electrical equipment Identify root causes of system underperformance, faults, monitoring errors, and equipment failures Use system monitoring platforms (Tesla app, SolarEdge, Enphase, etc.) to analyze production data and isolate issues remotely and on-site Perform electrical testing using meters, clamp meters, thermographic equipment, and diagnostic tools
Service & Repairs:
Replace or repair inverters, optimizers, batteries, disconnects, breakers, conduit runs, wire terminations, and related components Perform Tesla Powerwall warranty and service work per Tesla certified standards Address post-installation punch list items, inspection corrections, and permit sign-off items Complete system recommissioning after repairs, replacements, or upgrades System Assessment Reports (Key Deliverable): Conduct paid third-party system assessments for homeowners with non-functional, underperforming, or unknown-condition solar/battery systems — regardless of who originally installed them Inspect the full system: rooftop array, racking and clamps, DC wiring and conduit, inverter, battery, gateway, AC feeders, electrical panels, labeling, and monitoring Identify NEC violations, code deficiencies, installation errors, failed components, and safety hazards Document all findings with detailed photos using CompanyCam , following Coastal Energy's inspection report template Produce a clear, professional written summary: what was found, why it matters, and what it costs to fix — broken into line-item recommendations the customer can act on
Think:
if it's broken, we find it; if it needs fixing, we price it; if we can fix it on the spot, we do
Site Assessments & System Reviews:
Conduct service calls, warranty inspections, and annual system health checks Evaluate roof conditions, flashing integrity, racking stability, and weatherproofing at solar attachment points Identify HVAC, roofing, or structural issues that may be affecting system performance (roofing and/or HVAC experience a major plus)
Customer & Field Communication:
Communicate clearly and professionally with homeowners and commercial clients — explain what the problem is, what you're doing, and what they can expect Document service visits, parts used, test results, and system conditions with photos and written notes in CompanyCam and GoHighLevel (CRM) Produce polished, customer-ready inspection reports from field documentation — you write what you find, not what sounds good
Code & Safety Compliance:
Ensure all service work meets NEC, Florida Building Code, AHJ, and manufacturer specifications Follow OSHA safety protocols, fall protection requirements, and high-voltage electrical safety procedures at all times Install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including panels, inverters, wiring, and mounting hardware on various structures such as rooftops and ground mounts. Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to optimize system performance and longevity. Troubleshoot electrical issues using schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals; perform repairs on high voltage and low voltage systems safely and efficiently. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to accurately execute installation and repair tasks. Utilize hand tools, power tools, roofing equipment, plumbing tools, and forklifts to complete installation activities safely and effectively. Ensure all work complies with NEC (National Electrical Code), local building codes, safety standards, and company policies. Assist with fixture installation, electrical wiring connections, and system upgrades as needed on construction sites or existing installations. Requirements 5+ years of hands-on in solar electric and battery storage systems including proven experience with references Deep knowledge of residential solar PV system components: inverters, optimizers, rapid shutdown, disconnects, grounding, monitoring Proficiency with Tesla Powerwall systems (installation, service, gateway configuration, backup load setup) Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and understanding of NEC solar/ESS requirements Ability to read single-line diagrams, PV layouts, battery schematics, and electrical plans Experience using electrical meters, power tools, and diagnostic equipment Ability to produce clear, professional written inspection reports — findings, NEC violations, recommendations, and cost estimates that a homeowner can understand and act on Comfortable using CompanyCam to capture and organize field photos by job Valid driver's license and clean driving record Ability to work on rooftops, ladders, in attics, and in Florida heat Preferred (Strong Plus) Roofing experience — flashing inspection, leak diagnosis, TPO or metal roof familiarity HVAC knowledge — ability to assess whether HVAC-related shading or load issues are impacting performance Tesla Energy certification or training Experience with commercial solar systems (string inverters, combiner boxes, commercial metering) Familiarity with solar monitoring platforms: Tesla, SolarEdge, Enphase, SMA NABCEP certification or pursuit of same
