Job Title:
Solar Installer - Excavator Operator and Laborer Job Description This role supports the installation of ground-mounted solar systems by operating excavators to drive piles and performing hands-on mechanical and electrical installation work. You will work outdoors on a new construction solar project, using heavy equipment and hand and power tools to install piles, rig, pin, and place components according to plans and safety standards. Responsibilities Operate excavators (up to 336 size) safely and efficiently to install piles on a solar project. Use an excavator attachment specifically designed to drive piles into the ground in accordance with project specifications. Assist with rigging, pinning, and placing piles accurately into the ground as part of the solar array structure. Interpret and follow blueprints and construction drawings to ensure proper placement and alignment of piles and related components. Install mechanical and basic electrical components for ground-mounted solar systems, including conduit and combiner boxes, as directed. Use hand and power tools to complete construction tasks such as cutting, fastening, bending conduit, and assembling structural components. Support troubleshooting of basic electrical and mechanical issues under the guidance of experienced team members. Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to project standards. Follow all site safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment at all times. Work outdoors in all weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety. Work overtime when necessary to meet project schedules and milestones. Collaborate with other team members, including apprentices, journeymen, and helpers, to complete daily tasks efficiently. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience operating excavators, including machines up to 336 size. At least 3 years of mechanical solar installation experience for laborers. Proficiency operating excavator attachments used to drive piles. Experience in construction labor or similar labor-intensive fields such as apprentice, journeyman, or electrical helper roles. Ability to read and follow blueprints and construction drawings. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively. High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Ability to work overtime when necessary to support project deadlines. Strong awareness of safety practices on construction and industrial sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with pile installation for solar or other construction applications is a major plus. Mechanical solar experience on ground mount systems is highly valued. OSHA 10 certification is a plus. Experience with conduit installation and conduit bending. Familiarity with industrial electrical work, including combiner box installation. Background in solar, electrical, or general construction environments. Troubleshooting skills for basic mechanical and electrical issues. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based on a ground-mounted solar installation for new construction. You will work a standard 40-hour work week from Monday through Friday, with a day shift schedule of approximately 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, including a lunch break, and overtime as needed. Work takes place outdoors in all weather conditions, so you must be comfortable working in varying elements throughout the year. The site requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate work clothing at all times. The project environment is industrial and construction-focused, with frequent use of excavators, attachments for pile driving, hand and power tools, and other solar installation equipment. A per diem of $110 is provided for each day worked. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Farmington, NH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
