This is a full-time non-exempt salaried position Welcome to Lawrence Public Schools Lawrence Public Schools is committed to ensuring that ALL students successfully master the content and skills necessary to graduate from high school, college, and/or career ready. We achieve this by providing a standards-based, rigorous instructional program focused on academic achievement and the development of 21st-century skills, accompanied by a comprehensive system of support. These efforts are monitored and assessed regularly to ensure accountability to all stakeholders. Position Summary The Art Teacher will be responsible for organizing and maintaining a safe and inclusive classroom environment while ensuring instruction is aligned with the Massachusetts Visual Arts Curriculum Frameworks. This position requires the ability to design developmentally appropriate challenges, provide rigorous instruction, and implement processes that foster strong habits of mind. The ideal candidate supports diverse learning styles and creates opportunities for students to work both independently and collaboratively. Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Create and deliver engaging, standards-based visual arts lessons for high school students
- Teach a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art
- Foster student creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration
- Support students in developing critical thinking and self-expression through the visual arts
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
- Display and celebrate student artwork throughout the school and in public exhibitions
- Regularly assess and document student learning and progress
- Incorporate technology and interdisciplinary connections where appropriate
- Participate in school-wide planning, professional development, and collaborative team meetings
- Maintain ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues
- Model and promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Highly qualified visual arts educator with strong studio and teaching skills
- Deep understanding of artmaking processes, materials, and techniques
- Knowledge of how diverse learners acquire and engage with visual arts content
- Ability to reflect on teaching practices and use data to improve instruction
- Willingness to accept and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and peers
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support inclusion
- Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive teaching practices Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field
- Massachusetts DESE Certification in Visual Arts (Grades K-8)
- Experience working with middle school students preferred
- Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
