Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding part-time contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students and staff in an educational setting. This role requires a passionate professional skilled in American Sign Language (ASL), ready to facilitate communication and foster inclusion in classrooms and campus activities near Waverly, NE.
Key Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within a school environment highly preferred Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the range of communication styles within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community Ability to interpret in both one-on-one and group settings, adapting language level as needed Familiarity with educational terminology and concepts Excellent interpersonal skills, reliability, and confidentiality in sensitive situations Current interpreter certification or state licensure (when required) is an advantage
Responsibilities:
Accurately interpret spoken communication into ASL and vice versa between students, staff, and educators Support students' full participation in classroom learning, extracurricular activities, and school events Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and special education professionals to meet individual student needs Maintain professionalism and impartiality while adhering to ethical guidelines Prepare for assignments by reviewing course materials and staying informed on school protocols Track student progress related to interpreting services and provide feedback as requested
