Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful role as a part-time Sign Language Interpreter supporting students in an educational setting near Springfield, NE. Your expertise will enrich the learning experience and bridge communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring their participation and success in the classroom. This contract role offers a chance to make a tangible impact while enjoying a flexible work arrangement. What we're looking for: Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially within school environments. Current national or state certification as an interpreter (such as RID, EIPA, or equivalent). Ability to interpret effectively in a variety of educational settings, adjusting language levels to meet students' needs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with staff, students, and families. Strong understanding of confidentiality protocols and sensitivity to student needs. Commitment to fostering an inclusive, accessible learning environment.
Key responsibilities:
Provide interpreting services during classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities. Assist in facilitating clear communication between deaf or hard of hearing students, their peers, and educators. Collaborate with special education and general education teachers to adapt materials and clarify educational content as needed. Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times. Collect feedback and document services to support student progress. Remain up to date with best practices in interpreting within educational environments.
