Job Description

Tamassee Hope Village is a non-profit children's home and family service organization that has been a place of hope, healing and learning for children in need for 100 years. Position Summary:
This position will assist the Afterschool Program Director with program leadership and day-to-day supervision responsibility for all aspects of the afterschool program consistent with state and federal laws. The Assistant Afterschool Program Director will spend their day engaging with youth, and planning/facilitating programs. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Creates and maintains a safe, fun loving environment that provides growth opportunity for all students to achieve to the optimum of their ability and all staff to function efficiently toward the fulfillment of that end. Exhibit strong leadership skills and utilize classroom management skills when leading groups of youth in various programs. Exercise creativity and utilize resources to plan and implement interactive programs that provide fun learning opportunities for youth. Support the full range of learning areas: English (reading, writing, speaking and listening), mathematics, science, technology, society and environment, fine arts and personal development. Develop and maintain good working habits and discipline in classrooms. Carry out administrative duties as assigned. Supervise students during classes and at other times in the program schedule, including lunch breaks. Attend staff meetings and other training and development sessions. Take part in joint decision-making about educational/programming issues. Assess and evaluate students' progress. Assist and organize sporting activities, school concerts and excursions. Assures adherence to COA standards for accreditation in every aspect of the program. Assists with research of new or existing programs and "best practices" in other local, state and national programs and develop plans to either model and implement or suggest elimination from afterschool offerings as appropriate. Be knowledgeable and recommend programming adjustments in light of changing industry demands. Assist with report preparation to the Tamassee Board of Trustees when necessary. Develop and maintain relationships with industry professionals to promote the goals of the program. Assists in implementation of Tamassee's citizenship program in the after school program. Assists and plans special events and field trips, ensures they are properly supervised and released and other paperwork completed. Helps plan and oversee implementation of opportunities to recognize program students. Works with the Afterschool Program Director to handle crisis situations and takes action to resolve conflicts, disputes and concerns of staff, students, volunteers, and parents. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 2 years professional experience in Youth Development, Education, or related field. A minimum of two years' work experience directly with youth, in a Boys & Girls Program or similar organization managing full-time/part-time staff, and planning activities based on the developmental needs of young people. South Carolina Teacher Certification preferred. Flexibility to work afterschool program hours, especially as seasons and service needs change. Must have excellent Interpersonal Skills and Collaborative Skills. Understanding of Cultural Competency.
