About the New York Athletic Club and the
Winged Foot Day Camp:
The New York Athletic Club, one of the world's premier clubs, is seeking an Assistant Day Camp Director at the Travers Island property located in Pelham, NY. The candidate for this position will assist with leading the Winged Foot Day Camp team and its daily functions. The Winged Foot Day Camp is the perfect opportunity for children of members to gain a full camp experience, take advantage of the world class facilities at Travers Island, and create memories to last a lifetime. Campers will participate in several sports, creative arts, theme days, and off campus field trips.Job Description and Responsibilities:
Assist and oversee the daily operations of the Winged Foot Day Camp including staff schedules, camp schedule/activities, and field trips/vendors Assist the Manager of Youth Programs with promotion and planning of the Winged Foot Day Camp Assist with ensuring the Winged Foot Day Camp is compliant with the Westchester Department of Health and take lead on any visits Create a fun, safe, and inclusive learning environment for campers Enforce safety rules and regulations of the Club Ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative, be professional and maintain confidentiality in a fast paced and challenging work environment Handle crisis, emergency, behavioral and medical response as needed when issues come up at camp or in other childcare settings. Manage all customer contact, including responding to email and phone inquiries in a timely fashion, providing exceptional customer service, and handling sensitive and escalated matters for hundreds of prospective and attending camp families Be flexible to meet changing work needs and demands Must be on site Attend pre-camp training in June 2026Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years old Bachelor's Degree in education, sports management or youth development preferred 24 weeks of previous administrative or supervisory experience at a camp Pass NYS and national background check Valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification Transportation to and from Travers Island required Be available 40 hours per week during June-August 2026 Excellent communication skills and ability to work on a team Possess effective customer service skills Demonstrate responsible and professional conduct Be open to feedback and desire to grow professionally Able to handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately Assistant Day Camp Director will support the Director in the execution the following duties:- Developing and implementing camp policies and procedures
- Planning and organizing camp activities, including recreational, educational, and social programs
- Hiring, training, and supervising camp staff
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers and staff
- Managing the camp budget and financial resources
- Communicating with parents/guardians regarding camp updates and information
- Evaluating the effectiveness of camp programs and making improvements as needed
