UTHealth Houston's School of Dentistry, UT Dentists, is hiring for an Assistant Director, Financial Operations to join their team of professionals. The Assistant Director will be responsible for maintaining a consistent process for financial reporting and KPI analysis, monitoring revenue cycle performance to identify bottlenecks and escalate major issues, and collaborating with coding, billing, and clinical departments to enhance revenue integrity and cash flow. This role also ensures operational compliance while driving continuous process improvement and overseeing team performance. The position requires ongoing evaluation of the organization's financial health across the revenue cycle, with responsibility for providing data-driven recommendations and actionable plans. Daily activities include monitoring operational metrics and escalating issues, while weekly responsibilities involve KPI reviews and participation in cross-functional meetings. Monthly work includes financial reconciliation, close processes, variance reporting, and strategic planning, with additional responsibilities extending to quarterly compliance audits and process optimization efforts. Annually, the Assistant Director will support budget planning, year-end close, financial review, data reporting, and workforce planning. In healthcare finance, operational stability depends on reducing errors, improving turnaround times, and maintaining regulatory readiness. Successful candidates are able to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for executive and departmental leadership. The Assistant Director, Financial Operations assists in managing the day-to-day clinical financial activities for the School of Dentistry and its Dental Service, Research and Development Plan (DSRDP). This role assists with the responsibilities for all areas of finance including, monthly, yearly reporting (internal and external) patient accounting, coding and revenue enhancement, patient billing and contract management.Position Key Accountabilities:
Oversees and directs the management of the department's managerial and financial reporting functions. Develops and reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, which includes operating statements, accounts receivable aging, and various performance measures. Prepares special reports and analyzes as requested; and presents reports to various stakeholders, as required. Responsible for analyzing and interpreting metrics and relating this information to DSRDP and UTHealth Houston senior management for decision support. Communicates the Director's interpretations of existing policy and procedures while working within federal, state, U.T. System and UTHealth Houston guidelines. Plans, develops and implements, in cooperation with appropriate UTHealth Houston personnel, procedures to efficiently meet the financial goals of the institution. Assists in the management of the day-to-day end user financial operations as they relate to budgeting, cost management and reporting, cost reporting data, procurement, banking, account reconciliations, FMS purchasing and expenditure functions, financial audits, and for compiling fiscal reports as required by Administration, UTHSC-H, UT System and other external and regulatory agencies. May assist in the reconciliation of ledger sheets and preparation of the budget when requested. Assists in the direction, coordination and supervision of the financial management activities of the institution, which includes accounting financial reporting, budgeting, purchasing, and patient billing/collections. Works closely with DSRDP Chief Clinical Officer, DSRDP Director, Associate Dean for Management, Associate Deans, Dept Chairs/Dept Administrators and other key administrative/fiscal officers. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. Performs other duties as assigned.Certification/Skills:
Extensive personal computer skills with emphasis on spreadsheet and accounting type software. Healthcare finance/accounting experience preferred. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. Work may involve handling biohazardous, chemical, and radiological materials, as well as operating associated equipment. Required safety training and appropriate engineering and administrative controls including the use of personal protective equipment must be followed. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) preferredMinimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Healthcare Administration or Finance required May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.Minimum Experience:
6 years of relevant experience, two of which must be at a management level in a hospital and/or healthcare setting requiredPhysical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.Security Sensitive:
