Job Description
To maintain the best possible physical learning environment, under the direction of the Director of Maintenance and Operations; the Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations will plan, coordinate, direct, and manage the related maintenance, grounds-keeping , and/or custodial requirements of the district . Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Plan, coordinate and manage a comprehensive maintenance, grounds and/or custodial program for properties owned or operated by the District; provide timely and consistent services for District properties. Confer with site administrators and assigned supervisor regarding maintenance, grounds, or custodial activities; coordinate and conduct school inspections; recommend actions for improvement with site administrators and other staff as appropriate. Prepare and implement an integrated pest management program in accordance with state and federal regulations. Supervise, inspect, and evaluate the work of the maintenance, grounds, or custodial personnel. Coordinate the logistics of assignments with all parties connected to work requirements, to include procurement of necessary tools, equipment and supplies, accommodation of activity with the work site, and coordination with outside contractors. Assure that task activity is performed as to prevent unnecessary interruption of school activities. Comply with all job safety and health requirements. Solicit quotes from outside vendors, evaluate same and make recommendations to the Director of Maintenance and Operations. Confer with the Director of Maintenance and Operations on all matters outside the usual daily routine. Develop and direct in-service technical and safety training programs. Support the needs of the district during times of inclement weather and in cases of natural disaster. Perform administrative activities assigned in support of the Maintenance and Operations effort in the District. Make recommendations to, and confer with the Director of Maintenance and Operations concerning the current and future financial and practical needs of the department. Experience :
Four years increasingly responsible experience in maintenance of schools or similar facilities. Two years as a trade supervisor in maintenance or grounds management desired.Education and License/Certification :
Completion of 12th grade, or GED equivalency, required. Some college and/or trade school desired. Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license. Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license prior to the completion of the probationary period. Ability to be covered under the District property/liability insurance. Must have ability to present proof of high school diploma or equivalent diploma (i.e. GED) upon request. Examination Information Following the evaluation of training and experience, and responses to supplemental questions, the most qualified applicants selected to move forward will be invited to participate in the structured oral examination. Make-up exams will not be offered. After the exam procedure concludes for this recruitment, an eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies. When eligibility lists include open and promotional lists of qualified persons through competitive examination, the promotional list will be used first, unless otherwise stated on this bulletin.Work Schedule:
This is an exempt position with a full-time schedule at 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week, and observes a 12-month work calendar. Additional hours may be necessary. Compensation Salary placement for new employees is typically at the first step ($87,894.00/annually) of the appropriate salary schedule. Upon successful completion of the initial probationary period, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with all future annual advances occurring on the established anniversary date. Probationary Period Persons in this position are required to successfully satisfy a probationary period of one (1) year from the date of appointment. During this period, an employee must demonstrate an overall satisfactory level of performance. Benefits The District offers a generous and comprehensive benefit package, including vacation, holiday, and sick leave, as well as medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and qualified legal dependents. Leaves One (1) day of paid leave of absence is earned for each full month of service. The amount of sick leave granted may be accumulated from year to year. V acation is earned at the rate of two (2) days for each month in paid status for a maximum of 24 days per year. There are seventeen (17) paid holidays that fall within the work year.Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in inclement climate (extreme heat/cold, rain and/or humidity); some confined areas; safety considerations exist from exposure to construction and maintenance projects, materials, mechanical and electrical equipment, chemical fumes, dirt/dust; emergency call-outs and extended work days when necessary.Physical Demands:
Mobility to stand, kneel, squat, stoop, bend, reach, climb; standing and walking for extended periods; upper and lower body flexibility; twisting at waist; neck movement (upward/downward, side-to-side); infrequent lifting/carrying, pushing and pulling; normal vision and hearing with or without correction; visual acuity to read small print, blueprints, diagrams, specifications, work plans, etc.; manual and finger dexterity to take notes, write reports, operate computer/keyboard/mouse/tablet, cell phone; drive vehicle to conduct work.NOTE:
