The Assistant Director of Student Services supports the leadership and administration of the District's Special Education programs. Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, this role assists with program oversight, compliance, out-of-district placements, and staff supervision. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with administrators, staff, families, and outside agencies to ensure high-quality services and full compliance with state and federal special education regulations. Responsibilities Program Oversight & Compliance Support the day-to-day administration of special education programs Ensure compliance withIDEA, MA
special education law, and district procedures Conduct regular audits of IEPs and student records Provide technical assistance to staff and families Out-of-District (OOD) Placements Oversee OOD placements, including referrals, intake, and placement coordination Attend and chair/co-chair IEP Team meetings Monitor student progress, attendance, and placement effectiveness Maintain ongoing communication with families and outside programs Staff Supervision & Collaboration Assist in hiring, supervising, and evaluating special education staff and Team Chairs Collaborate with building principals to address student needs Support staff retention and professional development Student Services & Transition Planning Coordinate IEP meetings and ensure timely, compliant documentation Oversee transition planning and Chapter 688 referrals Work with families on post-secondary planning and services Support Extended School Year (ESY) programming ,b>Assessment & Student Monitoring Monitor academic progress, MCAS/ACCESS participation, and accommodations Review graduation requirements and competency determinations Track OOD student data, progress, and outcomes Financial & Regulatory Responsibilities Demonstrate strong knowledge of the Massachusetts Special Education Circuit Breaker reimbursement program Track eligible expenses and maintain accurate documentation Collaborate with the business office on Circuit Breaker submissions and reporting Support budget planning related to high-cost special education services ,b>Professional Responsibilities Attend trainings, conferences, and district meetings Participate in committees and ongoing program development Stay current on trends, best practices, and regulatory updatesPosition Type:
