The Able Baker is a small, locally owned bakery in Maplewood, New Jersey. We bake cakes, cookies, pies and other classic desserts, all from scratch on premises. We're a well-known destination in our town, as loved for our great coffee and baked goods as for our outstanding service and community vibe. We opened our doors in October 2011, doubled our space in 2016, and will be opening our second location later this year. We have been featured in t he New York Times, Real Simple, NJ Monthly, American Express Business Online , and more. We support local arts and education initiatives, and donate generously to organizations that champion social justice, fight food insecurity, and promote equality for all. We are looking for an Assistant Manager to join our Front of House management team. Reporting directly to our Senior Manager, Assistant Managers play a leadership role in supporting the FoH team to exceed our customers' expectations for great service, quality, and efficiency…and doing it all in a high-traffic, fast-paced environment.

Job Requirements:

Full-time, 40 hours/week Flexibility needed to work early mornings, evenings, and extended hours during holidays; weekend availability required 2 years minimum leadership experience in a high-traffic food service or restaurant environment, with a staff of 4 to 24. Bakery/cafe experience is preferred, though not required Excellent customer service skills Positive, effective communication skills with all team members, including the kitchen Problem solver, thoughtful decision maker Comfortable working in a collaborative environment; hands-on team player Must be capable of lifting boxes or containers weighing up to 50 pounds Duties include, but are not limited to: Support Front of House team to exceed customer expectations in service, selling, safety, and happiness Conduct morning meetings and frequently update staff throughout the day Role model barista and customer service skills (coffee experience is a plus, but not required…will train to our standards) Ensure high standards of drink-making, product quality/freshness, and merchandise presentation are met Train and develop staff, from new hires to seasoned veterans Accuracy and compliance in Operations, including cash management, register accuracy, opening and closing procedures, and online/holiday ordering Inventory management, online, and in-store Meet expectations of productivity and efficiency, manage work flow Communicate product needs to/from the kitchen and counter staff We offer: A friendly, supportive, and fast-paced environment Flexible scheduling Room to grow Medical and dental insurance at no cost to employee (25 hrs/week or more) Paid vacation for F/T employees (35 hrs/week or more) Paid sick days (5 days per year for F/T) 401k retirement plan with generous company matching Employee Discount Birthday cake on your birthday
