POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Coach assists with the planning, organizing, and coaching of the Gannon University Men's Basketball team, ensuring adherence to Pennsylvania State Athletic Association (PSAC) and NCAA rules, regulations, and the University's Mission and assisting in the development of leadership and citizenship in the student-athletes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assists in on-court instruction, coaching in basketball techniques, and strategy of the basketball team; evaluates the individual performance of players and provides leadership and instruction in areas of deficiency as required. 2. Coordinates, screens, and evaluates qualifications of prospective recruits; coordinates visits; recommends individuals for scholarships. 3. Promotes a positive student-athlete experience. 4. Participates in the collection and analysis of tactical and statistical data of opponent teams; assists in designing game plans and strategies. 5. Compiles and assists in the analysis of game statistics. 6. Assists with the operation and instruction of camps and clinics. 7. Represents the Gannon University Athletic Department at professional, civic, charity, and alumni events. 8. Performs other duties as assigned within the position's scope, responsibility, and requirements. Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree is required.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of collegiate coaching experience or four years of collegiate playing experience. A history of successful recruiting to a highly selective institution is required. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA rules as well as an understanding of the philosophy behind them.
Skills:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated organizational and time management skills; technical knowledge of basketball skills and strategy combined with the ability to teach and coach them effectively; the ability to motivate and effectively communicate with student-athletes; a willingness and ability to actively recruit qualified candidates to the University; strong administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting; ability to work independently and to work under pressure.
Licenses and Certifications:
A valid driver's license in good standing. Per Gannon's Institutional Policy Manual there can be no suspensions on the Motor Vehicle Record for 5 years prior to being hired.
