Jul 1, 2026 Job Description The Assistant Principal / Early Childhood Coordinator is a key building leadership team member responsible for supporting school-wide operations (Preschool-Grade 3) while providing direct oversight of the district's preschool program. This role ensures high-quality instruction, effective systems, and a developmentally appropriate, well-managed early childhood program aligned with district priorities and state regulations. Primary Responsibilities School-Wide Leadership & Operations
Administrative Partnership:
Partner with the Principal on day-to-day operations, including scheduling, staffing, recruitment, and maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment. Collaborate on the development and management of the school-wide master schedule. Act in the Principal's absence to ensure continuity.
Culture & Climate:
Promote a positive school culture by leading student discipline systems (PBIS), fostering strong staff relationships, and serving on the Student Support and Crisis Teams.
Staff Supervision:
Support the supervision, observation, and evaluation of all building staff, including Preschool-Grade 3 educators and paraprofessionals.
Systemic Support:
Contribute to school-wide systems like MTSS through data analysis and instructional/intervention planning.
Staffing & Hiring:
Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and recommending candidates for employment. Early Childhood Program Oversight
Program Management:
Lead all aspects of the preschool program, including student groupings, arrival/dismissal procedures, and day-to-day functioning. Oversee staff responsibilities and daily operational procedures to ensure smooth and consistent program implementation.
Staff Development:
Supervise and evaluate preschool staff; design and facilitate professional learning aligned with early childhood best practices.
Compliance & Administration:
Ensure full compliance with MA DESE and EEC regulations. Manage preschool registration, enrollment, and tuition in coordination with the central office.
Curriculum & Assessment:
Guide the implementation and continuous improvement of preschool curriculum and assessment practices.
Student Placement:
Lead screening and placement processes, collaborating with Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) to ensure appropriate programming for all learners.
Transitions:
Collaborate with the Principal and district leaders to ensure early childhood programming aligns with broader school and district goals and priorities. Communication & Community Engagement
Partnerships:
Build and maintain strong partnerships with families, staff, and the community to support student success.
Stakeholder Communication:
Communicate effectively regarding school-wide matters and preschool-specific programming. Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
