About this Position Langston University invites applications for a full-time, Instructor/Assistant Professor of Humanities in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2026. Duties and Responsibilities The faculty member will be expected to contribute meaningfully to the University's mission through teaching, scholarly activity, and institutional service.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching a minimum course load of 12 credit hours per semester , with primary instruction in Humanities and Philosophy courses. Developing and delivering engaging, rigorous curriculum that supports student learning and academic success. Providing mentorship, academic advising, and professional guidance to undergraduate students. Demonstrating innovative and effective use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning. Maintaining an active scholarly and research agenda, including pursuing external grants and funding opportunities that strengthen the department's academic programs and expand student support. Participating in departmental, school, and university committees, initiatives, and governance activities. Contributing to departmental planning, curriculum development, and long-term growth of the Social Sciences and Humanities program. The successful candidate will play an integral role in shaping the future of humanities education at Langston University and supporting a diverse and dynamic student population. Required Qualifications Master's Humanities, History of the Arts, or a closely related discipline is preferred. Fields may include, but are not limited to: art history, classics, languages and literature, history, philosophy, religion, or interdisciplinary area studies (e.g., African Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies) with an appropriate humanities concentration. ABD & Masters candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date) College-level teaching experience is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. A commitment to undergraduate teaching and the ability to involve students in scholarly or interdisciplinary research is highly desirable. Applicants must show evidence of effective integration of instructional technology and a willingness to utilize innovative tools relevant to assigned courses. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D./Ed.

D. A Ph.D. in Humanities, History of the Arts, or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred. Fields may include, but are not limited to: art history, classics, languages and literature, history, philosophy, religion, or interdisciplinary area studies (e.g., African Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies) with an appropriate humanities concentration. College-level teaching experience is strongly preferred.
