Job Description
at University of Maine System in Presque Isle, Maine, United States Job Description The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a 12-month, fixed-length Assistant Professor of Medical Laboratory Sciences. This role involves teaching within our established NAACLS -accredited MLT Program, as well as our new online MLT to MLS degree completion program currently seeking NAACLS accreditation. The intended start date for this one-year, fixed-length position is July 1, 2026. While this position may be performed remotely, periodic travel to the UMPI campus is required for intensive training sessions and department collaboration. The successful candidate will be a student-centered educator with a passion for lifelong learning and professional mentorship. We are looking for a collaborative colleague who can maintain high academic standards while remaining flexible to the evolving needs of our Medical Laboratory Science programs. You should be adept at communicating across various platforms-whether in person, in writing, or via teleconference-and committed to fostering a productive, confidential, and inclusive environment for students and staff alike. The salary for Assistant Professor is $77,650. A University of Maine System transfer rate may be considered in accordance with UMS policies. Key Responsibilities include (not limited to): + Develop, prepare, and deliver microbiology lectures and laboratory courses, including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, molecular, and virology at both the MLT and MLS levels. + Assist and/or instruct MLT laboratory sessions in chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, immunohematology, immunology, and phlebotomy. + Teach the MLT microbiology intensive training and assist with instruction in other intensive week trainings for immunohematology, hematology, urinalysis, and chemistry. + Assist in preparing, organizing, and delivering clinical specimens, media, reagents, and equipment for effective teaching of skills for all MLT courses. + Participate in student recruitment events and assist with program accreditations. + Participate in a systematic review of the curricula and departmental, university, and professional service. + Engage in scholarly activities appropriate to a faculty role. + Master's degree required. + Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist ( MLS ). + Minimum of five (5) years of generalist experience, with preferred three (3) years of microbiology experience in an approved clinical laboratory.
