Job Description

An industrial mechanical contractor (work involves industrial and mechanical construction activities, including steel erection and automated systems) is looking to add an Assistant Project Manager to their team! Job Description This role supports the successful delivery of industrial construction projects from initiation through closeout. The Assistant Project Manager works closely with an experienced Project Manager to plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute projects safely, on time, and within budget. This position provides day-to-day support for field operations, helps manage cost and schedule performance, and contributes to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and compliance across all phases of construction. This is a 100% on-site role - one project site is located in Elwood while the other is in DeKalb - the APM is able to select either location.
Responsibilities:
Support the delivery of industrial construction projects from initiation through closeout Partner closely with the Project Manager to assist with project planning, scheduling, coordination, budgeting, and safety execution Provide day-to-day support for on-site activities, including tracking progress and participating in regular project reviews Assist in identifying project risks, resolving issues, and proactively mitigating schedule or cost impacts Support planning and execution across all phases of construction, from pre-construction through completion Help ensure all safety, quality, and compliance standards are consistently met Assist with cost control and schedule management, including tracking projections and forecasts Review project projections and performance metrics to support decision-making Work under the guidance of a strong, experienced Project Manager who will provide mentorship and support Participate in ongoing training and development to build project management and construction expertise
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Construction Management or similar is a nice to have - (construction management, construction engineering, safety, civil, mechanical, industrial process/management) Open to any type of experience in the construction, industrial, or mechanical space Proficiency in planning / scheduling means, methods & software (Primavera, MS Project, P6, Power BI) is a plus Safety knowledge Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and construction documents Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of DeKalb, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $31.75 - $40.87/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
