Assistant Superintendent (MEP) - Data Center Construction Job Description This role serves as an MEP-focused Assistant Superintendent on a data center construction site, acting as a key liaison between the client, general contractor, and subcontractors. You will support commissioning and energization activities across electrical and mechanical systems, maintain schedules and documentation, and help ensure safe, high-quality execution of all tasks. A strong understanding of electrical systems and prior field experience in electrical construction are essential, along with clear, professional communication skills. Responsibilities Serve as an MEP liaison on a data center construction site, coordinating closely with the general contractor and multiple subcontractors to keep all parties aligned on commissioning and construction activities. Support the superintendent in ensuring all assigned tasks are executed to high-quality standards and in accordance with project requirements. Assist in distributing daily assignments to team members, clearly clarifying responsibilities and expectations for commissioning and startup activities. Provide guidance and hands-on support to junior staff to help them understand and correctly perform commissioning and energization tasks. Monitor daily task completion and report progress, issues, and areas needing attention back to the superintendent in a timely manner. Contribute to building and maintaining a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork within the project team. Assist in coordinating with external partners to support alignment on L1-L5 commissioning activities, ensuring consistent understanding of scope and timelines. Participate in coordination meetings, capture action items, and distribute meeting notes to relevant stakeholders to ensure follow-through. Track dependencies between multiple stakeholders and flag potential conflicts or schedule impacts for the superintendent to review. Ensure documentation from meetings is accurately updated into project schedules, dashboards, and tracking tools. Provide administrative and technical support to keep all parties aligned on commissioning plans, energization activities, and startup sequences. Maintain and update the energization schedule under the direction of the superintendent, ensuring safe and timely startup coordination. Enter daily energization progress and changes into project management tools, keeping records current and accurate. Track completed energization tasks and flag variances, delays, or deviations for review and resolution. Verify that all data entries align with approved Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and energization procedures. Help ensure startup sequencing is properly documented, clearly communicated, and accessible to all relevant teams. Assist in creating and managing the L3 startup schedule, tracking milestones, identifying conflicts, and reporting them promptly. Record updates to the L3 startup schedule in real time as activities are completed to maintain accurate project visibility. Ensure startup progress is communicated to stakeholders through daily logs, reports, and updated dashboards. Support documentation of L3 commissioning results to be included in turnover packages and project closeout materials. Assist in developing the plan of action for L4-L5 post-service transfer to operations, with emphasis on documentation, redundancy tracking, and system handoffs. Gather technical data on rack conditions, redundancy status, and system handoffs to support accurate service transfer planning. Assist in drafting transfer documentation under the supervision of the superintendent, ensuring clarity and completeness. Track action items assigned to stakeholders during planning meetings and follow up to ensure timely completion. Maintain organized records of service transfer strategies for reference during execution and future audits. Draft and prepare Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for review, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project standards before approval. Input MOP details into tracking systems and confirm they align with required operational and safety standards. Compare draft MOPs against existing operational baselines to ensure consistency and identify discrepancies. Flag discrepancies, gaps, or missing information in MOPs for review and resolution prior to final approval. Maintain a central, well-organized repository of MOPs for easy access during commissioning and energization activities. Perform accurate data entry for daily scheduling updates, MOP status, and Power Up dashboard information. Input daily progress updates into all tracking systems with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Cross-check data entries against field reports to verify accuracy before submission to stakeholders. Keep scheduling dashboards up to date to provide real-time visibility into project status and milestones. Generate daily status reports for review by the superintendent and project stakeholders, highlighting progress, issues, and risks. Support the superintendent in identifying and escalating risks, issues, or conflicts that may impact commissioning milestones. Monitor daily activities for potential risks, delays, or conflicts and document them in the tracking system. Record issues and corrective actions taken, updating trackers and reports to reflect current status. Ensure stakeholders remain informed of ongoing risks and mitigation efforts through regular communication and reporting. Help ensure compliance with safety, operational, and quality standards during daily tasks and documentation updates. Verify that all entered data accurately reflects activities carried out in compliance with safety and operational procedures. Assist in monitoring field activities for adherence to safety procedures and quality expectations. Report safety concerns, deviations, or non-compliance issues to the superintendent immediately. Help maintain organized quality records that support compliance audits, commissioning requirements, and turnover documentation. Essential Skills 2-5 years of experience in construction or a closely related field, with a focus on electrical or MEP work. Strong background in electrical construction, with an understanding of electrical systems and their application in commercial or data center environments. In-field experience working on active construction sites, preferably in commercial or industrial settings. Experience with data center projects or similar mission-critical facilities (preferred but not strictly required). Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel, for documentation, reporting, and schedule tracking. Experience in construction management, including coordination of tasks, schedules, and stakeholders. background in commercial construction, with familiarity in working with general contractors and subcontractors. Experience in construction supervision, including oversight of field activities and support of junior staff. Experience with inspection and quality control (QC) processes in a construction or commissioning environment. Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively between clients, general contractors, and subcontractors. High attention to detail in data entry, documentation, and schedule management. Demonstrated commitment to safety, operational compliance, and quality standards on construction sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience as an electrician or in a similar electrical role, providing hands-on understanding of electrical systems and commissioning. Familiarity with commissioning processes across L1-L5, including startup, energization, and turnover procedures. Experience working with project management tools, dashboards, and scheduling systems used in construction and commissioning. Ability to interpret and work with Methods of Procedure (MOPs), energization plans, and operational baselines. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain structured records, repositories, and documentation for audits and turnover. Experience working in high-availability or mission-critical environments such as data centers. Ability to identify, track, and escalate risks, issues, and conflicts that may impact project milestones. Capability to support junior team members through coaching, guidance, and clear communication. Comfort working in a contract-to-hire arrangement with potential for extended engagement based on project needs and performance. Work Environment This role is fully on site at a data center in the Barstow, TX area, working within an active construction and commissioning environment. You will operate in a mission-critical facility where electrical and mechanical systems are being installed, energized, and commissioned, requiring strict adherence to safety and operational procedures. The position involves regular interaction with general contractors, subcontractors, and commissioning partners, as well as frequent participation in coordination meetings and field walkdowns. Work will be performed using standard office and construction technologies, including Microsoft Office applications, project management tools, scheduling dashboards, and documentation repositories. The schedule aligns with typical construction hours, with potential for extended hours as project milestones and commissioning activities require. The environment emphasizes safety, quality, accountability, and teamwork, and you will be expected to follow all site-specific safety rules, personal protective equipment requirements, and operational protocols appropriate for a data center construction site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Barstow, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
