Job Description

Assistant Superintendent (Secure / Mission-Critical Interiors) Greater DC Area (Primary) We're partnering with a specialized design-build and consulting contractor focused exclusively on secure, highly regulated interior environments (think mission-critical / secure spaces within larger facilities). Demand is accelerating due to newly clarified regulations driving upgrades and retrofit work
  • even in spaces delivered within the last few years
  • creating a strong 3-5 year pipeline of work. This is a growing, team-oriented business where people are treated like people: 40-hour work weeks are the standard, and leadership prioritizes retaining good talent over burning teams out. The Opportunity This Assistant Superintendent role supports field leadership on secure interior projects
  • helping run day-to-day site operations, coordinate subcontractors, manage short-interval planning, and uphold a high bar for detail, process, and quality. If you've come up through interiors fit-out, healthcare, or other systems/process-heavy environments, your experience will translate well. Prior secure-space experience is helpful, but not required
  • the right attitude and discipline matter most.
What You'll Do Field Execution & Coordination Support the Superintendent with daily field supervision, site logistics, and trade partner coordination Help manage look-ahead planning, daily huddles, and short-interval schedules Track manpower, productivity, and constraints; escalate issues early Quality, Detail & Process (Critical in this Environment) Maintain clean workflows for inspections, punch lists, and closeout items Verify installations against drawings/specs and project requirements Support QA/QC checklists and ensure consistent execution (the details matter here) Safety & Site Readiness Enforce jobsite safety expectations and maintain organized work areas Participate in safety walks, toolbox talks, and incident prevention routines Documentation & Systems Assist with field documentation: daily reports, photos, RFI inputs, submittal coordination support Use standard construction tech tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft tools) to keep work flowing Client & Stakeholder Support Represent the team professionally during site walks and coordination meetings Help maintain clean communication between site, PM team, and consultants What Success Looks Like (First 60-90 Days) You become the Superintendent's right hand
  • trusted to run portions of the site independently Trade partners are aligned, work areas are organized, and daily plans are clear Documentation is consistent, issues are surfaced early, and quality holds without rework Ideal Background We're open on "where you learned it," but strong alignment typically comes from: Interiors / tenant fit-out supervision (commercial interiors, critical renovations, etc.
) Healthcare construction (process-driven, high attention to detail, sequencing discipline) Other regulated environments where mistakes cascade and process matters Requirements Experience supporting field leadership as an Assistant Superintendent / Field Engineer / Lead Foreman (ready to step up) / Junior Superintendent on commercial projects Comfortable coordinating multiple subcontractors and maintaining site structure Solid baseline tech skills (Procore/Bluebeam/MS Office or willingness to learn quickly) Strong communication, calm under pressure, and a "figure it out" mindset US citizenship required due to project requirements Valid driver's license; comfort traveling occasionally is a plus (not always required) Get job alerts Share Copied to clipboard Related roles Water/ Wastewater Project Manager
