Job Description

The Associate Chemist will be responsible for performing routine industrial hygiene (IH) sample analysis using LC/UPLC and MS techniques. Using precise analytical skills and understanding of chemical principles, the successful candidate will perform analysis of air and surface samples for a variety of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Must have the ability to work independently using laboratory instrumentation and computer systems. The successful candidate will maintain accurate records and comply with laboratory operation and safety SOPs. Working within the requirements of
ISO 17025
is expected. The IHL Associate Chemist will demonstrate analytical proficiency on a regular basis. The ability to prioritize workload and complete all testing in a timely manner is expected. Good documentation skills are a must.
Major Activities and Responsibilities:
Receiving and logging in samples. Follow internal procedures to ensure that test results are within control and methods are up to date. Prepare reagents, set up instruments, prepare and analyze IH air and wipe/surface samples Ability to interpret complex chromatograms Perform periodic checks of laboratory equipment and systems, e.g., daily refrigerator & freezer thermometer check, daily desiccator humidity check, weekly eyewash, monthly safety inspections, annual check of pipettes and syringes. Coordinate instrument repairs and order supplies as needed.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or other related science discipline
Required:
2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience with
HPLC/UPLC
Experience using Empower Chromatography Data Systems and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Demonstrate attributes consistent with the Merck workforce of the future, adaptability, flexibility, teamwork, accountability and innovation
Preferred:
Experience in IH, Environmental, or Pharmaceutical Laboratory environment Experience with
ISO17025
Quality Management Systems
