Job Description
What We Can Achieve Together:
The Associate Director of Development III (ADoD) for New York develops, implements, and manages effective multi-year strategies and plans for the cultivation of prospects and the solicitation of gifts, primarily from individual donors and may include some corporations and foundations. The ADoD will be joining a high performing team, raising $45 million+ annually as part of theOne Future:
Together We Find A Way Campaign with the goal of raising $500 million+ from the NY Global Market. The ADoD will work with development, conservation and executive leaders to help fulfill the New York Division's ambitious revenue goals. This position will also collaborate with team members to coordinate gifts for work beyond New York (across North America and in 80+ countries around the world) as opportunities arise. The ADoD reports to the NY Director of Development (DoD) and collaborates closely with the DoD and with the NY Executive Director, both of whom are based in the New York City office. The ADoD will be part of the Development leadership team for NY and will be instrumental in elevating the fundraising and relationships across Long Island. The ADoD must live in Suffolk or Nassau counties on Long Island. We're Looking forYou:
The ADoD will identify and engage existing and new individual prospective donors who are affiliated or unaffiliated with The Nature Conservancy and seek to motivate them to invest in TNC's conservation mission. They will develop qualifications, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of donors leveraging a local to global perspective and story, and the One Future Campaign. The ADoD will cultivate and steward prospects, donors, and networks in collaboration with TNC's executive, conservation and fundraising leadership and with TNC's network of committed volunteer leaders, donors, and partners. The portfolio managed by the ADoD will require sophisticated relationship management, a high degree of understanding of non-cash assets, and an expertise in the factors influencing philanthropic giving. The position will focus on long-range strategic priorities and be responsible for donor strategy and proposal development, working with conservation, finance, and development staff, as well as donors, to create transformational giving opportunities. This position will mobilize somewhat independently, support Division Leadership as a moves manager as appropriate, and follow the organization's reporting and metrics processes. This position will lead small events (salons, preserve walks, etc) to enhance donor's engagement, grow brand awareness and to engage new audiences in the geography.RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
Manage a portfolio of 40- 75 donors, including donors with the capacity to give over $750,000 once the portfolio is developed. Responsible for 40

- 225 moves annually.
What You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree and 7 years related experience. Experience in cultivating and ultimately stewarding the development of a pipeline of new donors. Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with constituents such as major donors and foundations. Experience soliciting and closing six-to seven-figure gifts, including experience with planned giving. Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors. Experience working with fundraising principles and practices. Experience, comfort, and facility with databases/CRM's. Experience, coursework, or other training in current and evolving trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts and planned giving. Ability to travel when necessary. Ability to be on the East End of Long Island regularly during the summer months and as needed throughout the off-season. Experience working proactively and independently while seamlessly communicating with a team of colleagues across multiple time zones. Experience communicating, both verbally and via written form, to a range of audiences. Experience maintaining confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information.Desired Qualifications:
Ability to design and implement fundraising strategies, including cultivation, solicitation and recognition strategies. Ability to determine an individual's interests, capacity and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals, and act appropriately to tie those interests with the Conservancy's work. Demonstrated experience using listening, diplomacy, and tact to build strong relationships and motivate donors and Volunteers Leaders. Attention to detail. Ability to educate and inform prospective and existing donors about appropriate giving vehicles. Advanced knowledge of complex charitable gift planning. Proven ability to negotiate complex, high-profile or sensitive agreements. Familiarity with BBCRM or similar data management system. Interest in the environment, community wellbeing, natural resources, or science a plus. This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $145,000- $160,000.
