Job Description
Associate Professor of Chemistry Garden City, KS 67846 Apply Overview Position Type Full Time Education Level Graduate Degree Category Education Apply Description This position is a full-time, 172-day contract position under the faculty Negotiated Agreement. The successful applicant will receive tenured status upon receipt of their fourth continuing contract. Supervision provided under the direction of the Division Chair for Science and Mathematics, the Dean of Academics, and the Vice President for Instructional Services. The primary assignment is to provide instructional services and learning facilitation for students in the Science Division. The successful applicant will teach both general education courses to the student population at large as well as courses in College Chemistry I and II and Organic Chemistry for Science majors.. Additionally, applicants with demonstrated experience in growing programs and attracting students to STEM education through high-quality, dynamic teaching and recruiting will be considered.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
This assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:- Teaching assigned day and/or evening courses using lecture, lab, hands-on demonstration, cooperative learning and additional teaching methods including online/hybrid delivery. Courses are offered in accordance with established standards and course syllabi.
- Position will require teaching College Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry, Chemistry for Health Services, and General Chemistry courses depending on faculty credentials.
- Providing individual and small group learning, diagnostic assessment of students, and identification of appropriate learning materials.
- Integrating appropriate technology for class demonstrations, labs, and instruction for all levels of courses taught.
- Participating in course and curriculum design, student advisement, program review and college committees as required to maintain and improve the learning program.
- Remaining current in subject matter and in the techniques most effective to promote student learning.
- Participating in staff and college meetings and contributing through appropriate committee assignments.
- Performing other relevant tasks as assigned.

Qualifications Knowledge and Skills:
Required:
Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Chemistry Education or related field. Strong preference will be given to candidates who establish the highest level of professional competence as evidenced by:- Physics teaching experience, at multiple skill levels.
- Ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
- Knowledge of computer-assisted learning strategies.
- Commitment to the discipline through involvement in professional organizations and activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
