Job Description
The role of Associate Senior Pastor at Peninsula Community Church requires a combination of administrative and spiritual leadership, focusing on both church operations and the spiritual well-being of the congregation. The Associate Senior Pastor will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, managing staff, and implementing strategic plans, while also developing their pastoral abilities to lead worship, preach, and provide spiritual guidance. The role is designed to smoothly make the transition to Senior Pastor, when the current Senior Pastor fully retires.•
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong, personal commitment to Jesus Christ and the authority of the Scriptures Strong understanding of Christian theology and biblical principles. Proven leadership and management experience in a church or ministry setting. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Passion for serving God and helping others grow in their faith. Willingness to embrace a new role and learn from others. Ability to cast vision and inspire others to participate in fulfilling the church s mission. Effective in building relationships with diverse groups within the congregation and community. Humble, with a servant-leader mindset. Energetic and passionate about ministry, with a genuine love for people. Willingness to live within or near our community.PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY A
commitment to the vision of the church leadership. Seeks to work with the Board of Elders to craft the vision of the church to build upon the foundation which exists. An evangelistic goal orientation. Seeks to reach out to the community using the church-wide philosophy of ministry. A discipleship training priority. Seeks to train leadership to serve the needs and purposes of the church family.RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Vision . Provide spiritual leadership and vision for the church, including developing and implementing strategic plans and guiding the congregation in their faith journey. Administrative Oversight. Oversee all aspects of church operations, including finances, staffing, and facilities. Staff Management. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff members, ensuring they are equipped to fulfill their roles effectively. Financial Management. Assist the Elders in managing church finances, including budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting. Community Engagement. Build and maintain relationships within the church community and the broader community, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. Biblical Teaching and Preaching. In coordination with the Senior Pastor, prepare the preaching calendar and preach on Sundays 40-60% of the year. Counseling and Care. Provide pastoral counseling and support to individuals and families in need. •SENIOR PASTOR TRANSITION PLAN
As Peninsula Community Church looks toward the future, we want to approach leadership with prayerful wisdom and intentionality - honoring what God has done among us while preparing well for what lies ahead. This transition plan is designed to provide continuity, shared leadership, and long-term health for our church. We believe healthy pastoral ministry includes mentoring future leaders, sharing responsibility, and building sustainable rhythms for both the church and its pastors. The Board of Elders is proposing a model in which Pastor Jim will continue serving as Senior Pastor while gradually reducing portions of his workload, particularly in leadership oversight and preaching responsibilities. This approach allows for continuity in vision, teaching, and congregational life while creating space for shared leadership and pastoral development. To support this vision, Peninsula Community Church is seeking an Associate Senior Pastor who will share in the preaching ministry, help lead and shepherd the staff, and serve as a key partner in the spiritual and organizational leadership of the church.
