Job Description The Director of Shelter Medicine Postgraduate Programs is a full-time faculty position responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing advanced training programs in shelter medicine, including internships, residencies, and specialty board preparation. Faculty in this role are expected to foster postgraduate student learning, participate in research or scholarly activity, and engage in service to the profession and community. The Director will provide specialized training, coordinate program operations, foster research and scholarship, and promote best practices in shelter medicine while upholding the mission of Lincoln Memorial University and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Orange Park (OPCVM).
Required Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
Eligibility for licensure in the state of Florida.
Specialty board certification (ABVP-Shelter Medicine or other specialty approved by ABVP for advising residents)
Documented experience in shelter medicine clinical practice.
Experience mentoring or teaching veterinary students, interns, or residents.
Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree (MS, MPH, PhD, or equivalent) in a relevant field.
Experience in program leadership or administration in academic or clinical settings.
Evidence of scholarly activity, including publications or presentations in shelter medicine.

Job Duty
Job Duty Develop and deliver advanced curriculum and clinical training programs in shelter medicine for interns, residents, and postgraduate trainees.
Job Duty Utilize innovative teaching methodologies, including case-based instruction, simulation, and experiential learning, to prepare students for advanced clinical and specialty certification
Job Duty Create and maintain instructional resources such as syllabi, training manuals, case logs, and evaluation rubrics
Job Duty Ensure curricula are aligned with specialty board certification standards and professional competencies in shelter medicine
Job Duty Provide direct instruction, mentorship, and supervision to postgraduate trainees in shelter and community-based clinical environments.
Job Duty Design and administer assessments that evaluate postgraduate trainee progress, clinical competence, and readiness for specialty board certification
Job Duty Maintain accurate and secure records of trainee performance, evaluations, and outcomes
Job Duty Provide timely, constructive feedback to interns and residents.
Job Duty Regularly review and refine program content to ensure alignment with accreditation and specialty board standards
Job Duty Oversee program operations for shelter medicine internships, residencies, and postgraduate training initiatives.
Job Duty Collaborate with Academic Affairs and Clinical Sciences leadership to ensure compliance with institutional and accrediting body requirements
Job Duty Complete institutional and program reports related to postgraduate program operations, accreditation, and outcomes
Job Duty Participate in College and University committees, task forces, and initiatives as appropriate
Job Duty Foster and support scholarly activity in shelter medicine, including clinical research, applied research, and program evaluation
Job Duty Mentor postgraduate trainees in research design, data collection, and manuscript preparation
Job Duty Pursue collaborative research opportunities with internal and external partners in veterinary medicine and animal welfare
Job Duty Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and continuing education
Job Duty Maintain professional veterinary licensure as appropriate for responsibilities of the role
Job Duty Complete required continuing education as mandated by the Florida Commission for Independent Education and other relevant licensing or regulatory bodies
Job Duty Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional development and leadership in the discipline
Job Duty Foster partnerships with local and national shelters, humane organizations, and veterinary networks to provide advanced clinical training and service opportunities
Job Duty Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to advance the mission of the postgraduate programs
Job Duty Engage in outreach and service that supports the advancement of shelter medicine practice and education
Job Duty Perform related duties in support of the College's and University's mission and evolving needs
